Recall for low-beam headlights out when high-beam selected

Check your high beams. When you switch to your high beams, the low beams should stay on. If yours don't, then you may be subject to an upcoming recall. Affected are 2016-2017 Ventana's, 2015-2016 London Aire's, and 2013-2017 Dutch Star's. The recall should begin in mid-June and will affect a little more than 2,000 RVs.

my 2002 used to swap High / Low beams. Where did you hear that this was going to be a recall?
I upgraded to aftermarket projector High / Low and LED projector High beam. Added a relay harness and wired it such that both High beams are on at once.

This must be round 2. Back in February I got recall 18V-062 for this high beam issue. Initially the dealers didn't have the download to correct it. However, about six weeks ago I had my coach in for another minor issue and they finally had the means to do this recall and mine was corrected.

Was this determined to be a Freightliner issue and would it be repaired by Freightliner? I can get to a FL service center a lot easier than a Newmar dealer.

If I'm not mistaken FL had to come up with the download to fix it, therefore it would be my guess that any FL authorized service center or Newmar dealer could do it.

It's a FL issue, I also received a recall notice in Feb tried to schedule at FL in Mar but they did not have a fix, good to hear FLJoe say there is a solution now.

Recall for low-beam headlights out when high-beam selected

I just got a recall today from Newmar (18v 245) that states Newmar will install a new wire harness to the chassis light harness to correct the High-Low beam problem.

Did the prior recall for FL to fix not work correctly?

Thanks
Ed

I might be wrong but I don't think this is a FL issue at all. The recall was always about Newmar doing the work?

Haven't received the recall notice from Newmar yet, but my coach is on the list for needing the update. Its 250 mile oneway to a Newmar dealer for me and I'm not impressed with their work. Do you think Newmar would allow an owner to make the wiring change as it looks pretty straight forward?

Got my recall notice for the lights today. Will check mine to see if the low beams shut off. I now have three recalls stacked up. The 12 volt cable over the rear frame....checked it myself and was okay, power steering hose and starter bolt issue, checked okay and now lights. Just need Freightliner to clear them all.

I don't know about the 2nd recall but the first one for the 2017 and 2018's are Freightliner's software update. I have an appointment for the fix in June....

Newmar Corporation has decided that certain 2017-2018 Ventana, Ventana LE, and Dutch Star motorhomes, built
on Freightliner Chassis, fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps,
Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
If the headlight high beams are activated, only the high beam bulbs may illuminate. The intention of the high beam
function on the affected coaches is to have both the high beam and low beam bulbs illuminate together. Not
having the required illumination of the road could reduce the driver’s visibility, which could increase the risk of a
crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Daimler Trucks North America authorized service
facilities will repair as necessary to ensure the low beam bulb will turn on along with the high beam bulb
