Recall of 2018 model year units; possible fire issue related to breaker box

Another recall is coming up for more than 600 Newmar's. This one is all about connections in the breaker box that my be loose and could possibly overheat, potentially causing a fire.

Affected are the 2018 versions of every model (600+ units within that group). Recalls should begin in the second week of June.

Nice to see NEWMAR acknowledge there is an issue.

Hundreds of thousands of RVs running up/down the roads have same/similar issues cause NO ONE actually tightens electrical terminals correctly.
Not enough 'factory floor time' to do it correctly

SAD that here it is 2018 and such a 'routine' installation procedure is still not being followed
Inch pound torque wrench or torque screwdriver are couple of tools I would venture to bet are not common on RV Factory Floors
Line/Neutral wire terminals typically 250 inch/lb
Ground bus bars 20 to 50 inch/lb (wire size dependent)
Circuit breaker load wire connection 25 - 45 inch/lb (torque valves ON the CBs)

Bet a slotted screw driver and set of Allen Wrenches are as close to 'torque wrenches' as it gets.

SAD SAD SAD

ALL RVs should go thru all electrical connections at least once a year/season and tighten connections

According to the defect report filed with NHTSA, this only affects RVs with production dates from June 2, 2017 to October 12, 2017.

They checked mine while in Napannee getting some warranty work done. All the electrical connections checked on mine were good.

It won't do any good to torque to spec. Copper slowly cold forms under pressure until it fills the space available. Screw terminals cannot exert enough pressure to cold form on one application. That is why crimping is better for that connection. The problem then is holding the crimp ring or hook solidly. That does not work either. The only answer is to periodically check for tightness. The problem has been around for as long as we have been using electricity on a commercial level. Nobody has come up with a fix.

In close to 60 years I have never seen an electrician with a torque wrench and have only seen a couple in production. Forget service personnel working for most large companies. Few folks will spend the money. Maybe the airplane folks as they get sued and inspected.

Has anyone checked breaker box themselves and found loose connection?
Not sure dealer knows anymore than me.

The problem with doing it yourself is that there is a "Recall" on the wiring system.......and needs to have the recall completed by a dealer and the recall signed off on. Other wise your Coach will be on record of never having the recall done........and then when and if something happens down the road..........?

I checked mine when the transfer switch recall came out. I will take mine in when I return from my road trip. Nothing unusual found.

Tried to have this fixed as I was in Nappanee last week. None of my service people knew anything about the recall so mine if bad is still bad.
