Recommendations to check and test at FPU OR Dealer PDI of a DS and up

After purchasing 2 new Newmar’s in as many years I have discovered some items that I wish I would have inspected more throughly prior to driving off with my new motorhome. I thought that I would take some time to make a list that may help others, I’m hopeful that others will read my list and add to it from their delivery experiences.

1) inspect aluminum wheels for paint overspray, both of my motorhomes had heavy overspray, especially around the slots. Take a hand and run it over the surface and look closely for dull patch’s.

2)bring a DVD and test all DVD players, I have found a bad HDMI cable and loose HDMI cables

3)turn on the interior switch for your bay lights, open one door to check if lights are on, if on press the plunger, if lights go out your good,if they stay on further diagnostics will be needed

4) pay close attention to the fit and finish of the interior trim, look for splits , gaps and lack of finish. I unfortunately had all of the above.

5) have all roof drains water tested, note the flow of water out the bottom of the 4 tubes, I had one with no flow

6) inspect the exterior paint, push slide seals in and look at the edge of the paint, I had paint sticking to one of the seals. Look at the surfaces from many angels, pay attention to paint sags and runes

7) look closely at the floor grout, I had several areas that were ruff or had small holes

8) work all slides multiple times, make sure they operate smoothly and the power shut offs function at the end of the travel

9 operate your entry remote from all around the motorhome, if it doesn’t work in areas your antenna wire may need to be relocated.

10) on your test drive pay close attention to the entry door latch, dose the door shut all of the way? Noise from the latch?
Hope you find some of this useful, please feel free to add to it
Stuart

On number 2) you can switch the DVD player to the satellite HDMI jack on the walls and switch the tv’s to satellite to test the satellite HDMI circuits

Thanks Stuart. I found an HDMI cable hanging in the basement. It was for HDMI 2 in the cabinet. Obviously came loose driving on I81 in Pennsylvania, the torture track.

On the 4369 the HDMI splitters are on the inside of the slide wall to the left of the outside tv under the kitchen sink, they are not easy to get to, much better done by the young skinny guy at the dealer/factory.

Our 18 London Aire had 4 of these issues. Newmar and NIRVC did take care of the problems but we needed to make them aware of them.

The light was on. It would begin to heat and quit halfway through.

That’s what took so long to find the cook top problem.
