We are looking at a couple of 2003 Dutch Stars and one has the refrigerator on the slide (model 4006). Seems like I once read that a refrigerator on a slide was not a good thing. Do any of you have this model DS or knowledge of possible problems with the refrig. on the slide? This model has 3 slides and the other model (3803) has two. The 3803 does not have the refrig. on a slide. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

It's the toilet that is never on a slide. Check out the layout of the full wall slides...they all have fridges on slides.

The slide-mounted fridge can suffer in hotter climes since the dual vent setup is less conducive to natural convection venting of the cooling unit's excess heat than a wall-vent/roof-vent setup (breeze across the roof sucks air thru the cooling unit cavity naturally, but not so w/the dual vent.
I believe this can be remedied, as many cooling problems can be, w/a fan blowing upward across the cooling unit. A positive displacement setup would be nice, w/a shrouded fan on back of the upper vent, tho that would be more complicated & intricate to install.

We had an 03 MA 5er 39 foot 4 slider with a refridgerator in the slide. Nothing but bad cooling even after Newmar installed two fans in the flue of the fridge. Cooling sucked. I've talked to others that had no problems. But they wern't full timers. We are. So, I would defer from the slide mounted fridge unless you really want that particular coach. Five or six years ago there was much discussion on this subject. Good luck on whatever you go into. If I had my druthers, I would install a residential refridge. That's what I did in our DSDP.

As long as the frig has a fan mounted in the outside section to push the air through it will work fine.

This THREAD will give you an idea of what problems may arise with Norcold or Dometic refrigerator. The top vent on slide needs also a baffle to deflect the heat the fans will be forcing out the top vent.
The coach your looking at may already be modified so would have to have dealer show you.
