Repair Estimate problem

Hello folks.

I emailed the service estimater at Newmar about 3.5 weeks ago requesting the cost to have a windshield put in while we are getting our warranty repairs completed at Newmar the first of September. Since I didn't hear back with a price, a few weeks later I again emailed him. He replied and stated he was doing estimates for those who have appointments before me.

i still do not haven an estimate now almost one month since we damaged our windshield.

I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of delay for a service estimate. It seems to me way out of the "norm" for a simple estimate.

Thank you all.

In Feb 2010 I had a two piece windshield reset for $900 with a new rubber gasket because it was torn in center and passenger side dropped tearing it more.
Had a new one placed year before and the glass company ripped gasket putting in new windshield.
Newmar removed both cleaned up the fiberglass and remounted in new gasket and sealant, baked under lights overnight so we could drive home next day.
You may not need all the extra work because its now summer back than it was 1* in Feb.

Jeff & Gail

That is very unusual for Newmar. They have always given me great service and are quick to respond to problems with a tech on the phone. Hope they get you squared away.

Remember they've been short staffed because of the rally.

Excuses don't help customers.

Sounds like in the summer time a company that builds RV would keep enough people around.
Its not like it "Rocket Surgery" to figure out that your going to have a lot more business in the summer time if your business is RVs.

To the OP I'd start going up the chain of command with calls.

Why not have a local glass place do the windshield. Why wait until September?
Is insurance paying for it?
If so they could recommend a place to have it done.

You're probably right John. The Newmar owners expect a large contingent from the factory at their national rally and the service folks simply can't be in both places at once. Unfortunately, Jeffreys got caught in the middle of all of that. Hopefully his problem will be resolved next week when everyone is back in Nappanee.

Hi Jeffreys,
Forget contacting the CEO. Contact the President, Matt Miller. He is the heir apparent to own the company.

It does seem to make sense to complete the estimates of MHs that are arriving ahead of you. While we were at Newmar during an earlier visit we requested an estimate for adding the LED lights to our Girrard Awning. We got an answer pretty quick and decided to go ahead and pull the trigger.

The point here is many requests come in "during" the repairs and it makes sense to give them the highest priority. However, that doesn't excuse how long you have been waiting to get your estimate.

One other point to bring back up is 007s experience. He had to have his windshield repaired again after having a generic repair company replace his windshield. I honestly believe we get the best repairs for our motorhomes done in Nappanee. However there are some really good Newmar dealers out there, but my experience has been that they are very hard to get into if you didn't purchase ur MH from them.

I had a little fender bender going around Atlanta last year and ran into the same experience with Newmar trying to get an estimate. In addition to taking a long time to get the estimate once I got the estimate it was incorrectly completed three different times. The first time they forgot to put labor on the first estimate which was the largest component in getting the repairs made. In the end they ended up being 100% over other estimates and I ended up going somewhere. The repairs have since been made and the motorhome looks like new again.

Give them a call on their toll free number. I've never had much luck getting action from them when I have sent them an email. Much better response with a phone call.

Gary,
We are newby's having just purchased a 2003 DSDB 3808, our first HM. Lots to be done to this "as is" purchase from a Fla Newmar dealer. Looking for a "bud" who has some thoughts about this Spartan chassis MH. Right now I'm trying to resolve what I think are the safety issues. Care to offer some insight? Headed to the Myrtle Beach rally for some more education.
