I had to buy a new slide out motor. Now I have to figure out how to drop the bar and gear box the but the bar through the new gear box. I have removed the set screws on the rod with an allen wrench but I still cant get the bar to drop, (loosen etc). When people explained how to move theslide in manually it sounded so simple but I nevercould get it to budge. I did find out that the old motor was locked up so I had to but another one. now to just drop the rod(drivesaft) and get it through the new gear box.

mikeyrph, Not sure if this is at all the case, but if the set screws galled the surface of the rod where they were tightened, "perhaps" they cratered the material and it's binding when you are trying to move the secured part.

The Torque nut has to be loosened the same way you are instructed to loosen it for manually closing the slide. You should have been furnished an one and a half inch "crows foot" wrench. Used with a breaker bar to loosen torque nut (right hand thread so turn left hand to loosen. Torque nut must be retorqued after installation. 97 model year manual states 110 foot pound however later models state 125 and 145 I believe depending on the size of the shaft the torque nuts are mounted on. Had a torque nut slipping for one reason or another and retorqued all three nuts to 130 foot pound. You must have a torque wrench capable of 150 foot pounds for retorquing

What year did Newmar stop supplying the crowfoot wrench? We had a friend with an 2002 and they had no wrench and they bought new.

Have read multiple times this Newmar PDF (which sounds a little old) and looked at the diagrams, and I could never manually move a slide-out. I guess I am mechanically ADD - I would hope to receive a simple explanation on how to loosen this 'transtorque bushing' and after this is done, how to wrench the slide-out in or out, after that, torque it back at 125-145 (depending on thhe size of shaft ). Very easy to understand

The bushing is a compression type fit. To loosen the bushing you must break the nut loose. That is where the crow foot wrench comes into play. After the nut is loose you may have to move the bushing some to turn it loose from the shaft, after that you should be able to move the slide in or out. I have heard as few as one man could move the slide or sometimes 4 men could not move he slide.

I have a 97 KA 5er and it came with two crowfoot wrenchs. (one for each hand I guess or maybe for some one from the next site to help). You have to furnish the breaker bar and torque wrench. It is my understanding that the room can be moved by using the wrenchs to turn the drive shaft after loosening torque nut. Have never tried it but would take a long time. Had to raise my landing gear about a foot one time manually and took about an hours time and that would appear to be faster than the slide

Once you release the torque nuts you will need some able body's to help push the slide in.
The bottom of PDF has the newer slide information with the Auto Lock system.
