Replaced Televator TV '16 DS

We did it ourselves! Put in a 49" 4k TCL tv. Was quite a project, but worth it. Larger tv in that space and excellent picture.

Just letting others know what we got to fit in there.

Safe travels all!

So if I understand the project, you installed a larger TV on your existing televator?

Or did you have to change out the Televator or install one from scratch?

I'd be interested to learn more too. How hard is it to take the old one off? I've been thinking about swapping out the Sony Tv that came with our 4018 but have not looked closely how hard it would be.

Larger TV, the TCL 4K 49" TV. The Sony is a 48.

Medium/Hard project. Basically taking the screws off the back of the TV mount on the telvator requires elbow screw drivers. Good to put your phone back there and take a picture to see what your dealing with.

Another important thing to be aware of is how the cords are zip tied and placed so they are not going to get crunched up in the televator. Also good to take a picture of that before starting. Gives you an idea of how to keep the cords safe.

The power supply cord to the Sony is basically glued on to the wall down there, so we left it. Just unplugged it and put the new plug for the 4k tv in.

U need at least 2 people, so someone can hold the TV in place while you unscrew it from the mount.

The top of the televator is like a flap. It lifts up on a spring. So be careful as you move the tv off or on as it will flap down on your head! Lol. Found this out the hard way, but gratefully, we all survived.

No further changes to the televator itself. The TCL TV has less than a quarter inch clearance on either side (what gives you the extra inch screen size), but fits perfectly and goes up and down fine. Weighs the same or less than the Sony, so that is not an issue.

Pretty happy with it so far!

Thanks for the write-up. You confirmed what I suspected already - not an easy job! I might rethink the swap-out:-)
