I wanted to ask advice. Since coming into Mexico in mid November our water pump has developed a leak where the two halves of it meet. Thinking we will probably need to replace it, we have always thought we would do so with the 5.8? gpi variable speed pump. However, we have met a person in one of the places we stayed here with a 2002 or 2003 KSDP that has 2 in his basement still new in the box as he is dumping them after replacing his with one, it failed and he got a new one and it blew his water connections because the pressure was too great. He has repaired his old pump and is using that and wanted to get rid of the new ones.
Well, now we were a little scared to purchase one from him, and are rethinking our plan. We will live with the small leak until we exit Mexico next month, but now we are unsure what we want to do next.
So, would like to hear from those of you who have replaced and in particular those that have replaced with the larger, variable and what experience you have had with it. I thank you up front.

If you a looking at the Shurflo 5.7, be aware that they have had some problems. The original ones were very good, but then they were forced to change the pressure sensor because the original vendor went out of business.
The newer ones have had problems, but the good news is that they have a 3 year warranty, and Shurflo's service is very good. The pumps that were mfg. AFTER July 09 are supposed to be better.
I'm sticking with my Shurflo 5.7 for now, but I do carry a spare.
Rumor has it that they will be producing a new design in the near future, whatever that means.

We tried the variable speed pump but didn't like it, so we have gone back to the old type and added an accumulator. The accumulator smooths out the flow and keeps the pump from running as much, with the added benefit that we can have the pump off and get 1/2 gal or so of water without running the pump (and waking our light sleepers up).

Did have our Shurflo 5.7 fail after two+ years of constant use and they sent replacement. Have had no system or line problems and would not be without it, the pressure is better than most campsites by far.

Donna, if you haven't already try tightening the bolts that hold the two halfs together. May just need to be snugged to reseal the unit. Vibration going down the road will shake things loose.

Well, unfortunately that is one of the things tried first of all. No such luck. Since we are in MX without access to parts, we are afraid to take it apart as the gasket might be toast afterward. It is working OK at this point and the leak is still small so we can wait until we are back in the US in February.

High DonnaB,
I went with the 4.0 GPM pump (variable speed). The pump has been perfect. 4 GPM is plenty of water. I would make the same purchase again.
