Linda HATES the light beige carpet in our '07 Kountry Star. I have read posts about changing the carpet to ceramic tile, and the difficulty encountered in changing the slide rollers, as well as trying to match the existing ceramic tile. My question is has anyone pulled out their carpet and put in vinyl tile? It seems to me that the carpet size rollers should work on the thin vinyl tile, but I would appreciate hearing from someone who has done it.

Linda and I have found a 'wood look' plank (not square) vinyl tile that would look great, but before I undertake this adventure, I would appreciate any and all advice.

Thanks

Mike

We're in the process of having our carpeting replaced with sheet vinyl. The vinyl we selected is fairly thick and has a recycled fiberglass backing. It is very pliable and is installed with a re-stickable glue. The vinyl just arrived from the dealer so it should be done in a day or two. We are planing on using scrap pieces under the slid rollers to keep dirt/rocks from being embedded in the vinyl. Once it's done I'll follow up.

You can do the planks. You also can get a vinyl reducer to make a transition from your ceramic to vinyl tile. The hardest part is getting the floor smooth where high and low spots do not telegraph thru the new surface.

I just picked up my rig from the shop. They did a terrific job installing the new vinyl. The only problem I see at this point is my slide rollers make small indents into the vinyl. I have plenty of scrap material so my plan is to cut strips for the rollers to ride on and that should prevent any divots.

The only place they had any problem was on the outside wall at the ends of the LR slide. Apparently that are about 6 inches square of floor that is irregular and metal plated so they tried to put the vinyl down unsuccessfully but had to use carpeting instead. In the front it blends in well with the carpet left in the cockpit. In the rear it is visible but mostly hidden by the table and chairs.

Total cost was about $900 for materials and $750 for labor. The vinyl is glued down with a peelable cement so if you get a nick or hole in the vinyl you can cut out the bad spot and stick down a matching patch. The surface pretty well self heals so seams are mostly invisible.

The living room looks huge. I will try to post some photos if I get time.

Dave
