I am thinking of re-placing our model 1200 Norcold with a residential type Frig. Any recomendations on brand/model? How do get them in/out of coach. We have an '05 DUTCH STAR Model 3809.
Thanks,
Chuck

Hi Chuck,
Is your fridge in a slide? If so, the switch should be no problem (for the pro's). If not, the residential refrigerators are quite deep. This means the unit will intrude into the main aisle quite a bit. Some would leave only 12 to 18" of walk way. Take some measurements and see if your floor plan will be okay for you if a residential refer was placed in the coach.

They do make a counter depth model that would not intrude as much, but these tend to be more expensive. Smaller is more? Depending on the size of the refer vs. the size of your entry door you may have to take it out (and then back in) through a window.

When I asked Newmar support about replacing my Dometic 1292, Newmar said they remove the front window.

A residential type Frig would stick out too far in our coach. Checking the depth measurement before making a decision, as others have mentioned, is the way to go. Joe

Well, I did this in April of '09. The Norcold we had was found almost on fire when we came home from an anniversary trip to Hawaii. We were very fortunate the coach did not catch on fire. Rather than replacing the Norcold with another, I went ahead and installed a 23.1 cubic foot Whirlpool Gold COUNTERDEPTH refridge. The Norcold went out the door and the new fridge came in the same door. Had to measure about four or five times before I was confident enough I could get the new fridge in, but I did do it. The counterdepth fridge sticks out maybe two inches farther than the Norcold. So that isn't a factor. The cabinet may have to be rebuilt. I had to do mine. But, if you go on the net and get the exact dimentions of any fridge you want (from Lowes, Home Depot, etc.) and meassure your openings, I'm sure you can do the swap. Somewhere, if you look on the site, there are a couple of pictures of my fridge.
