Replacing transfer switch/Cord reel question
After having issues with L2 dropping out in June of this year, (a good smack on the transfer switch or moving the cord reel seemed to fix it), it has happened again, so I need to fit the new transfer switch I bought, and new cord reel, courtesy of Glenndinning.
My question is, I know I need to unplug the 120v shore, and turn the Genny breakers off, but can I just leave the inverter switched off, or is it best to disconnect the batteries ?
Don't want any additional issues due to giving myself a shock !
Thanks in advance

The inverter does not run thru the transfer switch, but there is always a possibility of a back feed.
I would recommend that you disconnect the house battery just for added safety.
Remember when doing the disconnect, you must remove the POSITIVE cables first, and then the grounds. This will keep the system from seeking a ground thru the devices and damaging your AGS.
Reconnect ground first, and positive last.

Disconnect shore power and gen breakers off. Disable AGS, breakers have broke and not disconnected. Those are the only 2 sources there.

I'm gonna bet there is nothing wrong with your transfer switch and the problem is with the cord real. How did you test the transfer switch?

Last time it did this, it was summer, and saying as we are full-timing, (and I work) with 95deg temps, I didn't have the time to properly troubleshoot the issue, but did suspect the cord reel. Glendinning were kind enough to send me a new one, but whilst we were waiting on delivery, I banged the transfer switch several times, and everything was ok, until today.
This time I will test both sides of the transfer switch with a meter before I do anything.
However, as a precaution, I obtained a new Transfer switch, so will probably do both the switch and reel, at the same time, as it is easier to replace the switch with the cord reel out.

Well....after actually testing this time, there is no voltage from the reel, on L2 to the transfer switch, so it looks like I will be changing at least the reel tomorrow.
I guess the smack to the TS also jogged the reel......go figure.....
Looks like cavie and others called it!

Very common problem. I went thru 4 reels on my 2013, all covered by warranty. I believe the issue has to do with how much side to side motion the reel is doing going down the road.
Newmar uses 2 lag bolts into wood to secure the reel at the front. When grabbing it from the top, I could move it from side to side enough that it would eventually wear out the contacts.
My 4th reel was replaced by Glendinning with a tech they flew out to inspect. He determined that newmar needed to do a better job securing it. He drilled thru the floor, and used a long bolt, washers and nut to securely fasten the reel base to the floor.
After that, it worked for 3 years without a problem.
My 2019 is a different design than the 2013, but is still too loose. This is a repair I plan on doing soon.q

Good to know Redbarron73, did he just use the bolts at the front, as Newmar did, or did he bolt it at all 4 corners ?
Sounds like something I need to do.............

The back slips under a plat lip and that is in securely. Only the front 2 need to be more secure.

Since then, I've discovered an easy way to help balance the loads between L1 and L2. In the summer, we get by only using one element on the Oasis unless it is shower time. If I only turn on element #2 instead of just element #1 both L1 and L2 are pretty equal. Prior to this, I always used element #1 probably because it just seemed correct (and in order). So now it is element #2 first and then #1 if needed. ......Next hurdle is to retrain DW.
Thanks,
