Residential fridge changeover for 2007 Mtn.Aire 4528
Has anyone changed their Norcold to a home style all electric. Am looking for brand of fridge that will fit. Asked Newmar but they didn't know. Have 2007 MADP 4528. Wish for side by side with bottom freezer.

Samsung 197, 18 cu. ft. The hardest part of the install is taking the one out.

Hi tm2go,
Go to
http://www.irv2.com/forums/f54/out-g...tag-81685.html It is a long thread, but complete with many pictures and detailed explanation. It was done for a Newmar coach.

We have a 2008 4528 that was built as all electric. The refrigerator Newmar installed is a Frigidaire FSC23F7HSB (catchy name!).

I can second the Samsung RF197 recommendation (French door, bottom freezer). Just replaced our No-Cold 4-door refrigerator with one last year in our 2005 Mtn Aire 4304. LOVE the new fridge. Had the retrofit done at Oregon Motorcoach Center. They did awesome work. In our floor plan, the fridge is just behind the street-side slide and is above the furnace. The shelf holding the fridge up had to be lowered, and the opening raised a bit, to fit the new unit... but it is narrower width-wise than the No-Cold was.

At the factory they take out the big window over the dining table and use a forklift to raise the frig and then slide it through the opening. I watched the process when our rig was being serviced.

Had our fridge replaced at Oregon Motorcoach in Eugene... the new Samsung was deep enough that it wouldn't fit through the front door. None of the coach windows were large enough to pass the new fridge through, either (or were so close that it was iffy), so OMC removed one of the windshields. Passed the old fridge out and new fridge in through that (ample) opening.

Thanks to all that have replied about the fridge change. After my cooling unit failed on the Norcold (just above the burner unit) that was it for me. The smell of ammonia was unreal even though it was outside. Replaced the cooling unit as we full-time but replacement of the half the time cold Norcold is at the top of the list.

The Norcold box is not the problem the problem is the cheap cooling coils they put in.
A replacement Amish cooling coil unit with give you the cold Norcold you seek and less problem changing out to residual unit.
Its another option for you.

Please let us know what you work out, tm2go. I have the same coach. It was ordered with "all electric" - but I didn't realize the fridge, while all electric, would still be a Dometic (1492) -- it works much better than the Norcold and I haven't had any real problems with it, but I'd still prefer a real residential fridge.
My big hangup is the fact that the A/V cabinet is above the fridge. I have a forklift, the shop, etc... but I'm not a carpenter by any stretch.

Im told my 8 year old Norcold 1200 double door is delaminated and I need a whole new unit. About $4500 including install. Does that sound right (price wise) and has anyone heard of delamination in these?

Samsung RF197 for about a $1000 + install. Cheaper and you can do Ice Cream.
