On my 2011 Canyon Star, the metal strips that are screwed down around the edge of the rubber roof to hold it in place aren't caulked. On both of my previous (non-Newmar) fifth-wheels, the strip was covered with Dicor sealant. Is this normal for Newmar, or did they forget something?

Hi RetiredBob,
On my 05 KSDP I saw no caulk along the metal strip mentioned in the OP. I had no leaks. After 3 years, as a preventative maintenance item I put EternaBond around the entire seam. Go to RV Leak Repair Tapes & Sealants | EternaBond to read about the product.

Gary,
Thanks. That's exactly what I was thinking of doing.

Rubber Roof ???? Thought my 2006 DSDP had a Brite-Tek roof - not a rubber roof ????

My screws and most of the metal strip also is exposed, caulking is run on either side of the strip. No leaks yet, but I'm also thinking of doing what GaryKD did with Eternabond next spring as the caulk is starting to crack.

Eternabond work completed this week

4 inch white Eternabond Tape X 3 rolls (50 ').....some left
1 Can of cleaner
1 metal roll

with the help of a friend - measurements 2/3 over the seam and Brite-Tek, the rest on the body

Old tread but last posting was mine

.....thanks Brigadoon for your tips !
