My first disappointment with Newmar occured last night when I arrived back from dinner. There was water collecting and dripping from the ceiling light closest to the front of the coach. It was dark and still raining so I put a towel under the drip to catch the water and went to bed.

Woke up this morning to sunny skies. Climbed up on the roof to find what may be the problem. The seal between the front cap and the roof looks to have failed. The strip of fabric covering this joint has begun to peel back and I could stick my hand all the way underneath it. I have been in a few other rain events before and this is the first time this has happened.

My selling dealer has service open for half a day on Saturdays so I called to schedule a visit. First opening is 4/11. No good. Race week at TMS so I scheduled in on 4/16.

I will pick up some Silicon or "speed tape" at Home Depot for a temporary fix.

Any other Newmar or Dutch Star owners have this happen? Hopefully an isolated incident and not on the same path as Bob.

First time I have heard this especially with a new 07 coach.
I would also call Newmar to get this on record.
From what you discribe it sounds like the stainless metal strip has loosend up and the rubber roof has peeled back from it. The strip is suppose to be screw into front fiberglasscap and have sealent under it.
Everything is amiss with your setup.
I would use some of that wide 4" duck tape overlap a few strips so rubber roof can not peel back anymore, the more tape the better it can be cleaned up when they do the repair.
Make sure you call Newmar and discribe the mess your in, very unlike for Newmar to mess up the roof this way, on third coach and never had roof problems but would check every spring and fall. Never know if a tree branch could get caught under the front and rear cross metal strips on roof.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, there is no metal strip where the fiberglass front cap and fiberglass roof meet. It looks like a piece of fabric mesh held in place only by a gray adhesive.

I will let Newmar know as well. Thanks for the advice as well.

I agree, call Newmar on Monday morning and let them know what you are experiencing! Also, have them locate another place you can take your coach to get it fixed, rather than wait until mid-April.

Then you can enjoy race weekend and not have to worry about the roof!

Spoke to Joe in Newmar service this morning. Unfortunately, my delaer is the only one within a couple of hundred miles that is factory authorized. Looks like I will have to wait.

I did install some foil tape as a temporary fix and hopefully this will work until 4/16.
