Roof Plumbing Vent Base is crumbling so I need to replace it. Since one is bad I intend to do all 4 complete with new caps. Anyone already do this before? Looks fairly easy except for probably removing the old caulking or whatever Newmar used. Anything to be aware of before tackling this? Local RV shop has parts and tube of appropriate caulking.

For caulking, use only GE Silicone II. Never dries up, flexible
and great adhesion.

JM2CW, use a hair dryer and it will soften the old stuff, use a plastic putty knife and scrap away the old. While you are at it use one of the new vents with the spinning (with the wind) action. USE Dicor to rechaulk. Yes you will have to redo it once every two or three year are so, but it is made for your roof. Merry Christmas

You should have no problems at all.. One thing you MIGHT wish to consider is replacing one or two of them with something like the RV-360 Roof vent or the Cyclone or one of the other "Vacuuming type" vents. But you will have no problems.

Replacing those vents was one of the easiest tasks that I have done.
I used a stiff putty knife and paint scraper to scrape off the old sealant, removed the screws, removed all sealing material down to the fiberglass roofing. I used butyl tape under the flange of the vent and then sealed over the screws in the flange and over the edge of the flange with Dicor roof sealer.

A little Coleman white gas on a towel works great to clean up around the penetration and will prime the area before applying the Dicor lap sealant. I prefer using the self leveling Dicor.

Completed replacing all 4 roof plumbing vents yesterday. Really easy and only took 2 hours. Hardest part was removing the old caulking. However, it does help tremendously to get such great information from all of you on this forum. To Everyone.

Cool...glad it worked good for you. The old sealant can be a bear to remove. A hair dryer works good to soften it up but if it is dry and cracking then I haven't found anything that will help.
It appears I have to do my entire roof this year except for the two new fantastic fans I put in thus past summer. Lap sealant by the case!!!? That stuff is expensive too.
Happy venting!!!
Greg

Yes, the DiCor was $9.06 a tube. One tube barely completed all 4 vents. Doing a whole roof is going to be a major job. I feel for you. At least if you don't use it all you can always return the unused tubes but it really sucks to run out of caulking once your on a roll. Good luck.
