We are considering an '09 Dutch Star 3625. I have heard mixed reviews regarding the roofing material that Newmar uses. Our only experience is with fiberglasss roofs. Is the eternabond (rubber??) better / worse? I had a friend who had a '95 Kountry Star that had problems from new, and was wondering if things were better now.
Also, I have a genuine concern about the one-piece windshields - again, horror stories abound.
Not wishing to start a flame war. Can someone give us factual data, please??

Newmar uses BriteTek (I belive it is spelled that way) or fiberglass for their roofs. I have owned both and would take either. In '95 I believe they were using rubber.
Newmar has, to my knowledge, no issues with one piece wingshields. There are other manufacturers that have had problems, perhaps you are mixing them up.
The DSDP is a great choice and was also my last coach.

Hi Norm,
My coach has a Brite-Tek roof. It has been through a tornado, several hail storms (severe enough to obiliterate the roof A/C covers), South Florida sun (parked outside 100% of the time and some fierce pine tree forested CGs (read tree sap). The roof looks like it did the day I took delivery.
I clean it once a year with 303.
For me, if a fiberglass roof is standard, I'd take it. If the Brite-Tek roof is standard, I'd take it. I would not pay to upgrade from a Brite-Tek to a fiberglass roof.

As Peter notes above, there are no horror stories or problems about the one piece windshield on this forum or other Newmar forums.
Also as noted above, the Brite Tek roofing is superior to the old rubber roofing.

Thanks for the responses. I couldn't tell for sure what the roof material was from the website - and the closest dealer is almost 100 miles. My friend's '95 did indeed have the rubber roof.

A plus of the Brite-Tek roof is that it quieter! With my past fiberglass or metal roofs I always new when it was raining, now I rarely hear the rain-drops on the roof. Not that it ever rains here in the Pacific Northwest!
We are very happy with our Brite-Tek roof, so far would have it again.

Probably the biggest advantage of Brite-Tek over rubber and fiberglas is NO streaking(white or black)!

The ONLY issue I have heard with the one piece windshield was Kneal's. It was not installed flush and had an ugly caulked corner but this is install not the windshield itself.
I have the Brite-Tek and I can go up with cleaner and remove any and all marks from branches and such. It is very durable and cleans well. The other note on Newmar is that the roof is 100% decked with plywood under the covering so they are very solid.
