Rugs on heated floor

I have read not to use rubber backed rugs on our heated tile floors. DW wants rugs in kitchen. What are you using? Please just answer my question as I am not going to change her mind.

No rubber backed rugs on electric heated floors. I do have rugs with no backing but I don't even put rugs down at all if the floor heat is on.

Sounds like your getting rubber backed rugs, like I did.

We have rubber backed rugs on our heated floors with no issues. The floors only get warm, not hot enough to do any damage to anything in my experience. However, they will "slow roast" items left in the cat's litter box, if you get my drift.

While not in our coach, our S&B master bath has radiant floor heat & our floor installer told me not to put rubber backed rugs on it. I bought mats without any backing - good, I guess, because I can flip them over & get more wear out of them. Our floor is slightly textured so they don't move, but that might be an issue on coach flooring if you've got that really shiny tile. You might try some kind of woven throw rugs/runners.

I recently contacted Newmar Customer Service with the same question on using space/area rugs on heated floors to which they replied by advising me that the heating mat manufacturer (Aires) does not recommend using/placing rubber backed or throw rugs on the heated floors due to heat build. Below is what Newmar actually included in their response to me.

Since we already have and use some full fabric, i.e. wool space rugs, we've now taken up the practice no longer using the non-slip rug pads which we previously used under those and generally, roll up and store them away if using the floor heating at the higher settings.

(click on attachment below to expand and read the Don'ts (comment #11) which directs guidance on not using rubber back or throw rugs.
