RV paint

We lost our water heater door on our 2006 Dutch Star last week while traveling down the road. I found a new door and I am wondering if anyone has every attempted to paint a new water heater door them self to match the color and stripe of the motor home.

Sand and prime the new door. Install it and mark, with Scotch tape. The old clear Scotch tape makes fine lines and is cheap. After taping remove the door for painting.
Get the paint codes nad go to an automotive paint supply house and get the smallest quantity of the paints that you need. The supply house can also instruct you on reducer.
While there buy a PreVal sprayer. they're throw away and cheap. Some paint suppliers can put paint in an aerosol can. You can also discuss with supplier a base - clear coat process or use a paint like Centauri to do it all in one coat.
Buy some cheapo paint to practice on some tin cans to avoid sags. It's really not hard but technique is important.

I recently ordered touch up paints from http://www.automotivetouchup.com they were able to supply paint from the Newmar paint codes in several delivery system, pens, jars, spray cans as well as clear costs and primers. One of my colors was a custom mix and for that I needed to order two 12oz spray cans.

Color matches were excellent.

When you're done, drill a small hole near the edge of your new door, and secure it to the coach body with a small SS sheet metal screw, so you don't lose it again. ;-)

Took mine to a body shop, 2 days and $75 your done. Also took basement door lock that was replaced, 2 days $65 perfect match. No hassle, no chasing down paints, just drop it off and pick it up.
