RV storage

The wife and I would like to leave the RV somewhere in the lower 48 when we are back in Alaska. We were down south a little less than 3 months last year and could use the RV more if we could leave it somewhere and just fly back and forth. The perfect place would be inside storage with climate control, but the only thing I can find is outside storage. Is this a good or bad idea, I'm a little worried about things like sun damage, rodents, mildew, tornados and such.

Inside would be a lot better. Was there any particular area you'd like to store it?

We are pretty flexible on the location, Be nice to get out of here for a while in middle of winter and RV for a month or two, then come back for fishing season.

We have covered storage places around here in Fresno and Clovis CA. Friend of mine just rented a space in Clovis for about $115 a month. Fresno airport is about three miles from here and we've flown to Alaska out of it.

From Fresno we're four hours to San Francisco, L.A., Monterey and two hours to Yosemite. No snow here either, just a little warm in the summer.

Bill, NIRVC, NATIONAL INDOOR RV CENTER is a Newmar dealer. They have 3 loacations. Outside Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix. They offer indoor climate controlled RV storage. They keep all units connected to power during storage. When we visited the Dallas location we saw several units even had their toad still connected. I asked about this and was told some customers fly in pick up their RV/toad and off they go. They then bring both back for storage and fly back home.

Hi Bill and Jeanne,

We live in Eagle River, Alaska also. Currently have our unit stored in Las Vegas. It is covered but outside. They also have indoor storage in Vegas.

I was going to suggest Las Vegas as well. Lots of RV storage there out near the airport and lots of flights from just about everywhere at low prices to keep the gamblers coming. The only time of the year that you wouldn't wa to be in Vegas is when it's absolutely beautiful in Alaska

National indoor rv in Atlanta is really a very nice place. Not only does your unit stay plugged in they can do a lot more. Lp gas, wash& wax, sewer dump, and just about any kind of service. I don’t have a unit there but have toured the place.

Cost vary considerably from region to region, around here where I live in western Louisiana, one can find covered outdoor storage for under $75 per month, this is generally a large open sided shed that holds a number of RV's on a gravel parking surface, individual enclosed units seem to start at around $100 per month, and climate controlled is around $150. Which seems to be about half the rate one finds in the larger cities. Here is a random example of one such facility outside New Orleans Toys on Wheels RV storage I list it only because they offered detailed price breakdown for private and non private storage, with and without power, though personally I would pick some place 50 or 100 miles farther inland in case of hurricane.

Yes, National Indoors near Dallas, had a lot of RV's stored inside. Several people there at the camp area told us they store theirs there every winter.

Sorry, a little late...maybe

We're located in the greater Kansas City area. There are at least 3 storage facilities that are underground in limestone caves. That's what we use to store our MADP. It's 60 degrees in the caves throughout the year. Our facility also controls the humidity. It is valet service so you don't have to worry about negotiating the caves with a large vehicle. We use it so I don't have to winterize the coach after each weekend we use it during February, March and April. It is only $200/ year higher than storage at an open lot near me. Seen a couple of King Aires there when picking up or dropping off.
