"Safe Haul" on Spartan chassis

Does anyone know if Safe Haul is an option on 2018 DS. The Spartan website shows it as standard for MA,LA,ES & KA.

Just curious.

Hi - I asked at Spartan this past spring as we have an AF1 that we will transfer to the new Dutch Star. The answer is that not on the K2 chassis and that they must stay within the requirements as contracted with Newmar. It's not in those specs. Sure would be nice but there is no way to get it via Newmar on a DS.

I’m not sure exactly what the Safe haul is but I couldn’t get it on this K2. Does it have the safety features of the AF1? I got the coach side of the Air Force one installed by my dealer for about $900. A little high I think, but my last coach just had the brake line cut and an air hose coupler put on, no backup in case the air line broke.

At one time you could buy the kit from Spartan. Which was the same components that come with the AF1. It was around $400. For some reason it is not showing up anymore in searches.

For our 2017DS the factory did the install of the coach side ($300) but did it after the build before our FPU. Truck side I did the install myself. Took about 4 hours working slowly. Toughest part was putting in the brake pedal cylinder. Tough area with some contortion to get it in place.

Many folks get an install done at Dan's in Elkhart if they are doing FPU and need both sides installed. If you are close to the SMIBrake factory in SW Indiana they also do installs and probably have the best price.

Thanks Gary. I called SMI. They gave me Dan's info. I talked with Ryan at Dan's yesterday and will have them do both coach & toad when I take delivery in spring.
