Salesman switch - when do you use it

Ok, I learned the hard way to leave it on when I store the coach on 110v. When do you guys use it?

Never, unless we need to shut all power off in a emergency. We always use shore power when storing our LA at the house. Have been doing this for all 3 coaches for 22 years. Our batteries have lasted for long time by keeping coach connected to power.

Only when the GPS messes up.

I use it when I drop off the coach for service at Freightliner - just in case they'd need it for more than a day.

As soon as the coach is clean and ready for the next trip, I park it on its pad and plug in a battery minder to the house batteries and a second battery minder to chassis battery. Then I turn off both house and chassis switches. My last batteries lasted 11 years.

I don't like turning it off unless I have an unusual electrical glitch. I did shut it off the other day for that POS Xite radio when the GPS froze for ten minutes, even after the update. The GPS in that unit is such a heap, Newmar should actually refund the money people spent for it!

Can you elaborate on what you learned the hard way?

I think what they meant by "learned the hard way" was if you turn off the battery disconnect, it separates the batteries from everything including the output from the converter. So dead batteries. The converter in my rig charges the house and chassis batteries and I leave the fridge on 24/7. The only time I used the switch is when I need to leave the coach at Freightliner for a few days.

The inverter will continue to run and power the batteries until the low voltage disconnect shuts it down, so I turn the fridge off, inverter off and use the disconnect.

Never turned it off. Kept the coach and chassis batteries charged with either solar or shore power. The way ours was wired, if I turned it off the chassis battery would not be charged, though the coach batteries would.

I only shut it off the first time the coach was stored. The dealer told me to also shut off the inverter, then plug in to 110v. When I got ready for our next trip I had several electrical glitches. The worse being all three tank gauges had to be recalibrated!

Only when servicing the batteries. Otherwise it is on 100% of the time.
