The Ventana that we are picking up on Monday has a Sani-con waste managment system installed. What exactly does it do and what are the benefits to this system? The person that we had deliver it for us compained that it was dreadfully slow to drain the tanks. His thought was to remove this system. We will be doing almost exclusively boondocking with the ocasional full hookups.
Thanks

Hi katoomer,
Think of the Sani-Con like you think of a garbage disposal in a stick house kitchen sink. It grinds up the solid waste and pumps it through a small hose into the CG's septic system.

If your unit has the grey water by pass, consider keeping the unit. If it does not have the grey water by-pass, consider throwing it out.

Your OP mentioned most of your camping will be boon-docking. In this case the Sani-Con may be more trouble than it is worth. If you fill your tanks before dumping and you take the coach to a dump station, it might be better to go to the 3" hose. If you use one of the tote tanks, you'll have no choice but to return to the 3" hose.

However, if you will be staying in one place using full hookups quite a bit, the Sani-Con can be of benefit.
  1. With the Sani-Con and its' grey water bypass one will dump when the black tank is full.
  2. There is no more messing with the 3" connection at the coach. The Sani-Con stays connected, all the time. The Sani-Con hose has a built in end that fits all the different CG sewer fittings.
  3. The Sani-Con hose end has a screw on cap that eliminates fluids running out the end of the hose when removing or storing the hose.
  4. You will still need to have a full grey water tank when you dump the black tank. Cleaning out the hose remains an important step.
If you are at full hookups and staying in one place for extended periods of time, the Sani-Con can be a more pleasant way to dump one's waste tanks. Once installed, it is almost a sealed waste dumping system. No more messing with the 3" hose fittings.

Lastly, it does take considerably, longer to dump with a Sani-Con than a 3" hose. For speed, there is nothing that beats a 3" hose.

GaryD,

That was a great explanation of the system. I can't see us keeping that unit in place because of all the dry camping we do. In the last 4 years out of about 150 days of camping we prob. had hookups no more than 15 days

We have a Sani-Con that we use at the house if we need to dump. for use at any campground, we do not use the Sani-com, but use the standard Stinky-Slinky.

It is slower than using a standard hose, but not bad. In my opinion, if you use for the intended purpose of pumping the waste a bit of a distance or up hill, it works fine.

That's a good idea, never thought about that. Instead of stopping to dump before we get home, I could just do it at home. It would have to go uphill a few feet for me to dump it into our mechanical room floor drain.
Thanks

Are you sure your floor drain goes into the sewer system and not into a storm drain?

I had the Sani-Con system installed when I ordered my coach from the factory and have used it exclusively ever since, which has been two years. My thinking is why fool with the stinky slinky when you don't have to and be concerned about it leaving bad stuff where it's stored. Sure, it's just something else to have problems with, but when you roll your house down the roads in this country one can experience problems with all the systems. I've never been sorry I paid extra for this system and would insist on the Sani-Con be in any future purchase.

Katoomer....

By your handle I am assuming you are a "dirt rider" and much of your camping is done in riding areas...I also do much "race track" camping!

With the sani-con, you can dump into any sewer or septic system...even a toilet! Doesn't matter if it is uphill or downhill! and all you need is a 5/8 garden hose!

Yes it takes a bit longer....45 minutes vs 30...but the convinience is well worth it!

With our old coach, we would use the macerator pump to pump into the sewer cleanout on the opposite side of the house as our driveway. However we used the stinky slinky to dump at dump stations as it was much faster.

If you can hook and unhook it without too much trouble I'd keep it, it can come in handy when boondocking (as mythplaced mentioned, I've also read reports of pumping into pit toilets when the need arises and dump stations are not available).

Our new coach has a big enough tanks that we have not needed it on the road, I also put in a cleanout on the driveway side of the house for use at home with the stinky slinky.

Ditto this post...It is so much cleaner to use..I do NOT mind dumping tanks with the Sani-Con...and if a guys ever wants me to dump tanks..there better be a Sani-Con set up & ready to go!

I will keep it in place, it would'nt take long to switch hoses between Sani-conn or slinky. Sometimes we do camp at places with pit toilets.
Trail riding for us. 6 year old son keeps asking about racing mx, maybe next year I'll let him try it out. DW has no interest in camping at the track

Your wife may even want to hookup Sani-Con when not at the track. I have the Clean-Dump system and it lives up to its name.
The swap at times with 3" hose no problem, just like the clean dump allot better, you won't regret keeping it.

Boondocking with a SaniCon?

Here's another great tip. Typically your grey fills faster than the black. With the SaniCon in place you can keep the small cap on the SaniCon, open the black and grey valves to transfer grey to the black, then close them all up and you just gained many, many gallons more grey space.
