Have not tried an upgrade, however. ....... In Motion means a dome, Domes can see one KU band bird at a time. Now with a single receiver on DISH, or DirecTV (NOT DirecHDTV) this is not a problem, But if you have DirecHDTV, domes do not work for HD, period. No way to fix it either. (They work fine for DirecTV though, just not HD)
On Dish network, if you have one receiver.. no problem, many domes (make sure you get the right one) can switch from sat to sat fast enough to keep the receiver happy, they can do both SD and HD, no sweat.. But if you either 2 (or more) receivers or a dual input DVR, then less you choose to watch just one satellite all the time you will have a problem with one receiver needing one sat, and another a different sat (and if you have a 3rd, well there are 3 sats) Thus you will have only limited joy with a dome.
Of course you can use the dome to record your "Daytime Drama" as you drive and then set up a tripod when you get to the park to catch multi-shows in the evening.
next: If you are going to use in-motion, remember the law about TV's where the driver can see 'em or use DVR's to record for later playback (how I did it) I won't bore you with the law save to say that if the driver can see the TV, ... Well, that is a no-no. And I know for a fact tickets for that have been issued (NOT TO ME, I was the dispatcher for the trooper who did it though, had to have Sgt look up section of law for him).
Finally,, Domes come in 3 types that I know of... One can see one bird at a time and requires manual input to change satellites.
The next two can see either two, or three, (or more in theory) under the control of the receiver (you want this kind with Dish)
LNB's come in 2x2 flavors.. Single and Dual, Single means one output, ONE RECEIVER, you do not want this kind.. Dual means two outputs and 2 or more receivers.
The other applies only to duals.. Dish/Direct Has to do with how they choose between Odd and Even transponders.. If you choose DISH, it does not matter which you get as a Dish receiver can figure it out (Check Switch) you need Direct type for DirecTV though.
But if you are going to use DirecTV (no HD) than a simple dual-output LNB is all you need, and the 1-2-3 satellite type does not matter either.
Short true story: Fellow camper complained "I got a great signal on the meter but no picture"
I made a "house call" his automatic rooftop dish was pointed, per it's controller, at Satellite 119, and yes, he had a nice strong (90's) signal.
HE was subscribed to DirecTV however.. Beep, beep beep beep, grind a bit, pulse a bit more and ... PICTURE (I reset controller to 101) hey, I'm a Wiz when it comes to hitting forehead with heal of hand errors
