Scams targeting nice rigs
Saw an interesting thread regarding tire/shock scams ( http://www.irv2.com/forums/f59/bewar...ml#post3753269)
I would have been worried and potentially vulnerable had someone like that approached me about our rig or toad (although DH wouldn't have fallen for it). Now I'll be more suspicious.
It got me wondering what other scams have you heard of, or experienced? Especially ones targeting those of us driving higher-end looking rigs, and those of us who aren't as young any more :-)
TIA for your tales...

There's no such thing as a free lunch. Don't believe everything you're told.
Scammers prey on folks who don't know and understand the above sentences. If a business person, unsolicited, said I had a problem and they could sell me something to solve it, I'd say, "Thanks, I'll think it over and get back to you." I'd drive on and if I didn't know the info was bogus, I'd ask someone else for another opinion. I'd never just fork over money right away.
One oldie but often pulled scam was squirting oil on or under a shock and offer to replace it immediately because it was 'dangerous.' Tried it on me once, I grabbed one of their paper towels, wiped the shock off and told him I'd keep an eye on it.

Good warning. I have used the location twice a year and will not anymore. The also did not give the Flying J card fuel discount. Since the 90s too many people and businesses act as if the only bad thing about criminal behavior is getting caught. It stems from what "the definition of is is".

I hate to say it but, you'd have to be really naive to fall for that.
Getting milked out of over 4K for a complete set of substandard Chinese tires at a truck stop? Wow.
Do your research. Know what your options are. If you had the time to let them do that work, you had the time to do a little Googling about RV tires.
Also, the IRS does not call you on the phone and threaten arrest and ask for payment via iTunes gift cards.

These guys in Beaver got me for 2 Coopers years ago. Over paid by hundreds. Another time in Williams, AZ (next town West of Flagstaff) -- got gas, parked on the street next to the station and a guy comes up and starts talking about my tire threads being off, and possible alignment problems. I'd already learned my lesson and told him I didn't need help with my tires.
Still get gas at Flying J in Beaver but know these guys are up to their tricks -- I'll laugh next time and tell them what I really think.
Spend my Winters in Baja and I've come to look for scams -- and know most of them now.
