Question Sealing Roof Seams

A question on sealing roof seams; If you remove (or have to remove) all the caulking in the seam, and you want to use an EPDM adhesive strip product, should you fill the seam up with a caulking so that it is flush, thereby allowing the strip to be laying flat? If so should you use liquid EPDM? Are any of the other caulks compatable, or is there some unpleasant interaction (think silicone and aluminum, or natural gas and galvanized pipe.) And, for that watter is there a concensus as to which way is better, tape or caulk? Bob T

Welcome to the forum Bob with your 99 coach I guess you are due for some roof repair.
Here is a link to start and within Quick Tips 1 & 2 there are threads that cover any type of situation you may encounter.
I have been in the process of redoing all the seams on my coach side walls & slides the roof will be next.
All that I would remove from seams on roof would be any loose sealant left after a good washing so tape will stick to a clean surface.
If your roof has a build up of sealant by previous owners I would not lift it off just what maybe loose or really wide spread over the natural seam you will be covering.
There is a group of threads on roof repair and other seam work in the QT LINK read them and you will get some good tips.
As to learning all about your coach just ask the questions on forum and read all thats in QT and you have some idea of what is going on with your coach.

Thanks for the links, "007". I do find it interesting that EPDM rubber in warranteed for 10 years in RV applications and is used as liners in acid tanks and warranteed for 25. I even used it as waterproofing on an earth sheltered house. I guess the most important thing to consider is to not create a dam that will hold water on the roof. The last time I looked, the caulk was available in all colors. Bob T
