If you use the State Parks in Texas (enough to justify), buy an Annual State Park Pass the first time you go in there. Texas is one of the few States that charges the entrance fee (even if camping) and by person, and for each day you are there. So if you are a couple the fee is twice what it is if you are single, but the pass is a family pass. I think it cost us $80, but we more than recovered that cost.
If you are in GA, there are State pass options. The lowest cost pass pays the entrance fee plus you get one night of free camping. After that you don't have to pay the entrance fee, plus you get 10% off camping. There is a small discount for seniors for pass purchases IIRC. They also have a higher cost pass that provides 2 nights of free camping plus a discount and no entrance fee.
I found the VA State Parks are probably the most expensive State Parks of any in the Country. As a non-resident requesting water and electric, your cost will be just shy of $50 for 1 night of camping. They are usually nice clean parks though.
