G'morning ALL Newmar owners: Just finished scheduling our rig in at Nappanee for 9/22/08 appt. to have our "list" of fix it items taken care of and got to thinking it might be worth while to post our "list" and perhaps to see other Newmar owners fix it lists. Thought this could generate some good exchange of info and help, both for us owners, AND, perhaps for Newmar as well. Anyway, let's see. I'd suggest starting by a.)Identifying your rig, then b.)entering your list of recently completed, or upcoming fix it items. Here's ours....
Rig: 08 4502 ESSEX (All Electric), 500 Cummins ISM, Milage 7,500
1. Fix R. Front HWH Jack Extended Alarm (Won't shut off when retracted & now disconnected).
2. Check, Calibrate, and Make Operational the on board Smart Tire Monitoring System. (Can't
get it to display correctly or don't know how to do it).
3. Fix Satellite acquisition problem w. King Dome Unit or change dome. (Frequently keep loosing sat. and must disconnect/re-connect to maybe re-acquire)
4. Fix connection and feed from Batwing T.V. antenna. (No continuity from control box to T.V.)
5. Check & Repair if necessary (or teach owner) HWH Jack Retract/Hadley Air Up function. (Getting rig to "air-up" is problematic, often only after several attempts).
6. Correct thermistor control for fan in stereo/t.v. component control cabinet above fridge. (Fan stays on continually even with all equipment in cabinet off).
7. Fix or teach owner correct method for adjusting R. & L. Turn Cameras on rear view mirrors. (Projected display when turn signal engaged is only a brief "blip").
8. Repair Bay Door hinges and locks. (3 doors moving out of alignment (sagging) and can't adjust locks correctly).
9/10.Adjust Awning & Shade deployment/retraction. (One exterior awning won't retract fully & interior front windshield privacy screen often squeals when retracting).
11. Repair Auto Fresh Water Fill sensor. (Solenoid malfunctioning & won't shut off flow when filled).
12. Check & Repair if necessary front "dash" Air Conditioner. (Seems not to be cooling).
13. Install flip down shower seat. (per purch. agreement w. dealer).
14. Inspect and correct sealant leakage/extrusion at various places along exterior sidewall channels. (Existing sealant extruding at numerous places along this channel).
15. Perform Spartan "campaign" #CSB08-330-002 re: Hadley SLS Ride Height problem.
16. Repair untightenable tail light lens L. rear.
17. Repair extreme vibration/shaking of r. rear view mirror.
18. Repair operation of large awning windsensor.
19. Inspect and fix toilet vent stack and/or back odor cause from commode.
20. Verify or install latest serpentine belt and fan system upgrade. (Experiencing substantial vibration both when pulling and/or descending (w. engine brake) steep grades).
21. Replace small power shade on rear bdrm. slide window. (deploys crooked and separating).
22. Repair paint scratches on exterior bay doors.
23. Install Model 6600 Upgrade Kit for Fantasic Vents (kitchen & bath).
24. Correct extreme sag in entry door awning.
25. Check and correct intermittant "popping" and settling of rear jacks after leveling when parked.
So......that's our list. I know many of you could fix alot of these things yourselves, but I'm not that mechnically inclined, and, although willing to do so, I'm very reluctant to start digging into and taking apart stuff when I don't know what I'm getting into. If I'm permitted to watch the Newmar techs do these fixes, I'll know how the next time. So what's on YOUR lists?? Steve & Lynette

Just a idea. Number 11, the auto water shut off. I have experienced similar, only sometimes. The common element each time was, the water bay door was open. This is caused by sunlight defeating the optical sensor. I close the door, reset it and all is well.

Not much comfort I'm sure, but many of your list items are indeed ones we've all had experience with at one time or another....
#25 especially comes to memory, as it had it's part in scaring the ever livin' bejeevies out of me on several occasions as the popping sound emits.
Sort of makes you sleep with one eye open.....
Good luck in Nappanee and tell the folks at the Corner Cafe I said hello.....LOL!!
Sorry to hear the deli isn't even started rebuilding, it was truly one of the nicest little sandwich (and dessert) places in town.
I'm sure the guys in high line miss it too, as it was the "source" of many a box of pastries delivered by appreciative service customers for their morning break times.

Peter & rebelsbeach: Hey, thanks for info. Will try closing water bay door. So...rebelsbeach, did you or Newmar solve the "popping/settling" issue or do we just live with it? Thanks again. Steve & Lynette

Great idea but not to be negative, I have spent 74 days a camp Newmar this summer, and on our other 4 visits we have never been there for less than a month. This past trip I had to go see Mr. Miller to get my coach fixed correctly. Very happy to report it is finally repaired and we are back on the road, question is for how long.
Our neighbor at Camp Newmar picked up a new Dutch Star and was there 18 days and still has issues.
Point is this site will need more space if we start posting our repair list for Newmar.

chick - the slightest left-right mis-level will cause that. With 8ft of water tank spanning side-to-side it doesn't take much angle (imperceptible) to cause it to "think" it's full on one side only to be running out the top overflow on the other - especially true if your "full" level is set for 105 gals. Best thing is to have Newmar back off the "full" to 95 gals or so and give that tank a little working room for less-than-perfect level. You can always tank it up to the top using manual fill.
Or, just raise the coach from the door side jacks a tad and that will solve it too.

Steve, they tried everything and as of the sale date of my LADB the jacks still popped....
Gary, while I certainly feel your pain with respect to the posting of repair orders, (having been to Nappanee myself seven times in one year), I also think that sometimes more information is better than less.
With respect to the forum, when these repair order issues are posted and then read by prospective or current purchasers IMHO it gives those folks the opportunity to "alert" the service techs that they know of these issues in the past and as such would rather skip the "learning curve" on those issues as provided by Newmar.
While these posts could also be obtained by "searching" the Newmar Forum specifically, the prospects of getting our members to do that religiously aren't very good either.... LOL!!
(By clicking on "find" and typing a topic search and leaving the box checked which reads "search this forum only", one can find a plethora of information.)
Just my thoughts....

RV Dude: Yup, fill set at 105 gal. so mis-liveling might be the cause. Thanks. Steve & Lynette

I had the opposite problem then you, in ITEM #6.
I have 2 satellite receivers in that cabinet, along with a DVD and Surround Sound receiver.
I never did notice the fan running and my sat. recs. would get pretty hot.
I ended up disconnecting the fan from the thermostat and using a jumper wire so the fan would stay on full time, when the MH is not in use. When the MH is being used I disconnect the jumper, since the MH's interior is a lot cooler then.

I agree with Tom....
With the electronic cabinet in the LADB I had serious heat issues and as such the fan was wired to stay on all the time.... I even got to the point of leaving the flip up door open all the time as well.

Well, I think I'll attempt to try and get the techs. at Newmar to FIX this fan issue. It ought to work as it's supposed to (like ALL components) don't ya think? Steve & Lynette

My Ventana is in the local Newmar Hospital for the following:
1. Gray water tank monitor shows 0% all the time, except when I showed it to the service manager. Then it showed 13%, but was empty. New sending unit is being installed.
2. One floor tile is lifting on the corner. Six other cracked tiles were found. 10 will be replaced (after Labor Day weekend trip).
3. One window won't latch. New window was ordered. Hard to believe the latch couldn't be fixed.
4. Center flourescent ceiling light stays on for 20 minutes, gets tired, and won't come on until it rests for hours. Ballast?
5. Windshield night shade scrapes the trim at the top left corner (roller).
6. One bay door is hard to latch.
7. One side window shade is crooked.
8. One drawer doesn't latch very well (didn't latch at all until I made some adjustments).
9. Pocket doors don't open easily. I have to pull on the back part of the door to open/close fully.
10. Fuel filler door causes sharp pain in the left rear pocket of driver's pants.
