A friend, with an 07 Essex, whose warranty expired in June, has had some ongoing problems: awnings, toilet, Villa furniture. A Newmar facility/tech at rally has, on several occasions attempted to repair these things. Now that the coach is out of warranty the claims have been denied by Newmar. Although the selling dealer, who attempted to repair the awnings in the past, said to bring it back (1700 miles one way) for "no charge" final repair/paint touch-up. Newmar has also told my friend that if he drove to Villa (LA area) they would take care of his sofa (pillow backs collapsing). What has your experience been re: previous issues not being solved, and the warranty expiring?

It would seem to me that ongoing issues ought to be taken care of, especially if he has any documentation of them telling him to bring it back at a later date. Tough times though, everybody's trying to save every penny they can to make it through. Best of luck to him.

I just purchased a new 2008 Dutch Star
The 2008 DSDP has never been titled, so I assume that Newmar will give me a 1 year warranty from the date I purchased, rather the date the unit was built,,,Am I correct?...Also I paid about $16,000.00 for an extended 4 year (5year toal) warranty, with a $50.00 deductable.Am I correct in thinking that if something breaks in a year and 1/2 I can take it back to Newmar and Will honor this warranty?? VACMAN

You pose some good questions: 1. Yes, I know LaMesa, Mesa, AZ is a certified Newmar dealer, and that would mean your warranty is in effect when you take possession of it: 2. The extended warranty covers you when Newmar doesn't. However, these days, as afrank1971 says, I would assume nothing! In case no one told you, Newmar has an 800 you can call for issues (I don't know what it is for your coach), but they will walk you through any problems: all you need to give them is your Newmar unit number (on the card when you take the unit). Also, a Spartan 800 number, for advice or roadside assistance (all you will need to give them is your Spartan number).

I had an awning issue that was reported while under warranty. It was not resolved and I documented the problem again 2-3 months out of warranty and notified Newmar. When I was there in December they fixed the issue for no charge. I just spoke to Ron Weaver and explained where I had notified under warranty and they should honor the warranty.

I assume the $16,000 for an Extended Service Plan is a typo and you actually paid $1,600. If you did pay the larger amount the salesman / dealer made enough commission to take a couple of months off from work.

Your new motorhome comes with a one year bumper to bumper warranty from Newmar and they will pay for all repairs. Your ESP will pay NOTHING the first year. Your engine, transmission and chassis comes with warranties between 3 and 5 years so your ESP will pay NOTHING for those repairs.

So actually you bought very limited coverage. I would cancel the ESP and get my money back.

My 5 year 35,000 mile warranty cost $5,800, bumper to bumper including washer, dryer, etc., with the exception of cosmetics and included seals and gaskets so $16,000 is way off. You can cancel and try other sources such as Good Sam’s for their extended warranty packages.

My 7 year, 70,000 mile cost me $1,400 and has already paid for itself. I'm sorry that you folks had to pay so much, but you should've gotten kissed first!

Wow, Never realized extended warranties were that expensive. Even $5800 is a lot! Never had one and expect never will at those prices.

The key is to document to Newmar your issues before the warranty expires and there should be no problem.

Our question was referring to "golden"'s " 7 year, 70,000 mile cost me $1,400 ".
Sounds great if they are still in business and you are not meaning $1,400 per year.
