Size Matters
In the Essex, what is the biggest tv you have installed? Any mods needed? Can't stand the 32 we now have.

It depends on the location. Up front we have a 32, the new models have a 40 but that would require all the wood up front to be rebuilt. In the living room we have a 40, I think that is about as large as the space would allow. In the bedroom there is a 32, any larger the wood surround would have to be rebuilt. The new models have a 40. Outside is a 32 I have seen someone upgrade that to a 40 but it was on a King Aire, not sure about a 40 fitting in the compartment.

Life is good, when all we have to worry about is the size of TV's in our Motor Homes.
Now lets see, if I replace that 32" with a 40" I can replace the bedroom TV with the 32", that means putting the 40" on a swing arm, HMMM.
Good Luck with a replacement.

Cupboard access in the area could be your limiting factor, and the amount of wood working your willing to attempt. On any replacment TV watch for speaker placement; are the speakers in forward facing grills ,or underneath facing down. Sound quality can be an issue in any recess. Check manufacturers venting recomendations on line before you buy or start any changes.

Exactly my plans except for the swing arm. My eventual plan is to change the couch with 2 recliners and the love seat with some kind of cabinet/credenza with the 40" on top. Then install surround sound with some much better electronics for proper viewing & sound and more comfortable seating. Sitting in the turn-around drivers seat that is 18' from the screen just doesn't work. At home I have a 60" viewed from 10'.
And, yes, life is good.

You mean like this?
My handy work in 2007. At the time I could only fit a 40 in LCD on the lift.

In 2008 we had Newmar install a 52" HDTV on a Nexus 21 lift in our King Aire. An Essex and a King Aire have the same interior height. The newer TVs have smaller bezels, so a 55" would fit in the same space today. The TV will need to be smaller if you plan to place it on the slide with the step up.
