Slide Comes In, Won't Go Out

I need some troubleshooting help. This weekend, I started putting out my front passenger side slide when I noticed something was caught on the corner.

I stopped the slide. It was just a bag. I moved it and tried to put the slide the rest of the way out. Nothing. No motor sound.

Luckily, the slide did come in. All 3 of the other slides worked fine.

I'm hoping that the problem is just a bad switch. I removed the front slide switch, which has both passenger and driver side switches on it. I thought about just swapping the wires from the passenger side to the driver's side switch, but I didn't want to risk not being able to pull in the other slides and be stuck. I suppose I could try this when I get to my storage lot.

I could also try switching the wiring harnesses at the control module. The front and rear passenger side control modules are next to each other. I assume I would leave the connector for motor +- connected and swap the other harness that sends the signal and has the ignition wire.

Any troubleshooting help would be appreciated!

Yes, you should be able to swap the other harness as you propose to control the front slide from the rear controls. Also, you should be able to swap the modules (there is a current adjust pot on each, note the position of it and make sure their positions end up the same for their slide if you do swap them). If your controllers are the same as mine, here is the manual. FYI, mine are both fully CCW which means they are set for 10A stall current.

Good Luck!

You may only have to unplug the battery plugs and it may reset the control module.

I did try unplugging it. No luck. It wasn't very long, so I don't know if that makes a difference.

I also cut off all power by switching from In Use to Storage for 10 seconds. Still no luck.

MC Camping Supplies has some Monoplex controls, though I could not find an exact match. Probably your best bet is Newmar parts. Their part number is 94335.

I played around with it some more. I switched the motor power wiring harness
from the front (problem) controller to the rear controller.

I pushed the rear slide switch, and the slide started to move. However, it was
moving in the opposite direction. The rear switch would move the slide either
direction, but in was out and out was in.

This leads me to believe I have a bad controller or a bad switch.

The 2 controllers for the front and rear passenger slides have the same
Intellitec numbers, but they aren't the same. The front (possibly bad)
controller is a different color and has an extra wire coming into it at the top.

I apologize for the quality of the picture, but I only had my cell phone.

http://www.padefamily.com/gallery/gallery2/d/14196-1/SlideController.JPG

Underneath the controller are 2 different Newmar part numbers. The front
controller has Newmar 22408. The rear controller is Newmar 05908.

Neither of those part numbers are on Newmar's web site. I did find 94335 mentioned above, but I can't tell if it has the extra wire connection.

The difference maybe one is voice control. Can you pull switch and cross the leads on switch, with the plugs in correct units and see if it is your switch.

It's in storage since I can't have it in front of the house for > 48 hours. I can try switching the wires on the 2 switches. I meant to do that this evening, but ran out of time.

All 4 controllers are voice command. However, only the driver's front slide actually has the "lock arms must be released" message.

The spot on the wiring harness for voice command is empty on the other 3 controllers (no wire).

The rear passenger slide has a delay, but no sound (must be the way the jumper is set). The other 2 operate as soon as you push the switch.

At the campground, I removed the switch and checked the wires. They weren't loose. I was going to try switching the wires from one switch to the other, but I'm so paranoid about doing something that would prevent the slides from coming it at a campground that I didn't want to take a chance messing with it.

No problem, the picture is good enough.

The controller with the red lettering seems to be a more recent version of the controller. Here is a data sheet of the earlier version, at the bottom it says Rev. A. Here is the later version, it says Rev. B.

There is a difference in the way the Monoplex switch is wired. I'd say that a Rev A can be replaced by a Rev. B, but not vice versa. Either way, a call to Newmar parts should clear things up.

When I called for a slide driveshaft that was destroyed they were very helpful in identifying the part, I was able to send them a photo and they confirmed that part number that way. I received the new shaft in two days, great service!

Assuming the problem controller is the one with the red lettering, you can troubleshoot the switch connections without removing the switch easily because of this extra connection. You'll need a helper or a way to keep the switch pressed.

Looking at the schematic on the second page of the later version data sheet, you can see that when the switch is pressed in one direction there should be about 220 ohms from the MPX Bus connection to the separate wire, the other direction the resistance should be about 470 ohms. You can disconnect the 5 pin connector and the extra connector and measure the resistance between the two pins while the helper pushes the switch. This will confirm both the switch and the wiring. I suspect one of the directions will not work.

FYI, for voice output to work on this controller, the Voice output needs to be connected to a "Voice Control" which actually has a speaker and the circuit/chip to synthesize the voice. This controller provides a relay contact that tells the Voice Control to start talking.

My next trip is coming up soon, so I called Newmar and ordered a new switch ($27.69) and a new controller ($125.35).

It's doubtful that both are bad, but these are good spare parts to have with me.

I fear 2 things while RVing (well, there are more than 2). The slides won't come in or the jacks won't go up.
