Slide Lock Trim Rings

The metal trim rings that go around my slide locks (all 6 of them) need to be recoated (they are rusting). I would like to leave the slides closed, retract the locks, have enough time to remove the rings, and the lock the slides again. That way I could take these to the powder coating shop.

Can I intentionally do this?

Why not open slides, remove rings and seal with plastic. Easier to get to them open. If you unplug them at box they will not open, but they won't move unless you put jumper on the prox switch. Careful when re installing the screws, they will strip if over torqued.
