My brother-in-law had a motorhome, not a Newmar, with two slides. Neither of the slides had locks of any kind. Several times after a day's travel I saw one or both slides had slipped out as much as 1-1.5 inches on one end or other. Seeing that made a beliver of me to be sure to lock my slides' arms. Now I do it ALWAYS. Only takes a few seconds each.

Ah, didn't realize the discussion was about the other type. And mine are not the newer mechanical ones I've read about, mine are electric motors that spin an arm out/in based on slide direction. It presses very hard at the end of the cycle to ensure the slide is fully recessed when closing. You can watch the slide get snugged up tight during that portion of the cycle.

I use both locks on our front slide. The one right behind the driver was pretty loose, and during a particularly rough ride in Virginia, the front slide lock disengaged. When we got to our destination I heard a pop when extending that slide. When it was time to bring it in, I found that the slide was out of alignment and was still sticking out about 1 1/2 inches on the front edge. I had have a mobile mechanic come to the house and loosen the trans torque bushings and re-align the slide. I always engage both locks on the front slide. I only ever use the front lock on the bedroom slide. Without standing on the bed and contorting myself like a bad dream from a chiropractor, I can't use the rear lock on that slide.

I use my locks religious. While getting ready to travel, talking with a friend, the FWS started moving out by itself. What the heck!!!!😠😤

The problem turned out to be a bad switch which I replaced, so I will always use both locks.
