slide out lock arm problem

I have a '02 Kountry Star, with a living/dining slide. It has manual lock arms. Today while extending the slide, it operated fine - but just as it was fully extended I heard a loud bang. The "bang" came from the end of the slide - it sounded like something popped and hit something. OK, so now I decide to retract the slide and watch the lock arm at that end - I see a strip of styroform type material that has torn(looks like strip of padding along edge of rv) - slide retracts and I am able to lock arm as normal. Time to extend and watch the lock arm as the slide goes out. All is fine until the last few inches, I see where the lock arm is catching, then gets by. This is a new issue, never happened until today. The coach is level, all normal setup procedures followed.

Ideas? I am not near a Newmar dealer right now, I am a fulltimer - currently in Knoxville, TN area. Any thoughts on what might be happening? More important, what might be involved in getting it fixed. Thanks for any advice.

Kathy

Kat, the foam strip is to protects you from getting the screws that stick out behind it from sticking into you if you put your hand in that area.
Mine as yours will fall off screw ends and get caught in slide lock.
Take the strip and place back on screws making new holes to keep it in place.

had the same problem.the hinge on the rod was catching the aluminum frame on coach.this could happen if the latch has been bowed outward or the hinged part is lose.

Welcome carswayne to the Newmar forum & irv2.
If one happen to forget unlocking the bar and operated the slide the bar can bend.
Best to take it off and put in vise to straighten it will catch the aluminum frame if bent, thanks for bring that up Wayne.
Enjoy the forums and do post often.
