Hi All;

I am a new owner of a 1999 Mountain Aire. I am trying to open the bedroom slide, and seems the entire bottom is trying to open, however not the top? I believe I do not have (looking at the slide from the inside) the lock arm totally released onthe left side, and I was not given a 'PSO Lock Arm Tool'.

Any suggestions?

I used a tire iron from our car to reach in a bump the lock arm up on our bedroom slide. Worked in a pinch but not the best tool.

Peg,

I have an '02 Mountain Aire (gas) and I have two manual locks on the bedroom slide. You have to crawl over the bed to lock and unlock the aft manual lock for the slideout.

The mechanical locks are "over centered " in the "UP" position when locked. They just need to be snapped downward. forcibly, to unlock. You really need the tool to handle this chore. I would call Newmar parts at 800-731-8300. and have them send you one- ASAP. They are good to work with.

Good luck,

On mine the locks are not that tight, you can do some by hand if you wanted. You probably don't have much room but if you had enough to just loop a towel or similar over the top and pull down hard it might just release.

Welcome to the Newmar forum & irv2 Peg.
DO NOT try to move slide out without releasing both bar locks on slide or you will pop off the night tables from fascia board trim.
Without the bar it maybe difficult to push them down.
If you have a strong arm and quick jerk downward may release them.
I only lock the forward lock in bedroom during winter months will lock rear one for tight seal around slide seal surface.
The bar has a red handle and black shaft with loops & bends, may be stored under bed, couch or in compartment underneath.
Someone post a picture but I have not found it yet.
Let us know how your making out.

Hi Peg,
Make very sure the slide is all the way closed before trying to release the manual locks.

After following all the above suggestions to confirm your slide locks are not locked, try opening the slide a little so the bottom sticks out an inch or so like you describe, then push on the top of the slide. The top should push out. It may be better to have a helper operate the slide buttons. This way you can keep pushing the top as the slide goes out.

If it does go out relatively easily and does not get stuck if you don't push it, yours most likely has the same problem as mine. As near as I can tell it is caused by inadequate reinforcement where the wall of the slide connects to the steel slide mechanism. I think it is the spring from the slide topper that causes it to bend. I need to reinforce it someday...
