Hello all,
I've got a 2001 American Star 24KSRB - two slides. The kitchen slide works fine (now I've said it, here comes Murphy). Actually both work fine, but the LR slide seal comes almost completely off, in the horizontal section above the slide, as the slide moves. It looks like there is a rusted up metal clip that runs the length of the seal that has come off. Not sure how to fix it - fiddled with it for awhile and all I could do was open/close the slide as normal and then stuff the rubber seal back into place.
The seal is in good condition, but it just won't stay in place. What do I need to do to fix it?

Not sure what you can do with replacing strip tough place to work on because most of it is like working blind. The roofs have a stainless steel strip that may work for you its just the problem of removing the old strip and adding the new. You could use a large long mirrior with the slide half way out so you have room to use tools for removel and attaching the new strip over the rubber seal. May need some help to start and you will have to pratice working backwards.

You could use a plain metal strip but it would just rust again, or maybe a good plastic strip.

If the rubber is open to let water in at any point moisture will eventually seep in and corrode the metal clips. It starts to let go and becomes worse over time. The seal needs to be replaced. Not that big a job. My dealer put a bead of silicone all across the top to keep water out of the new one.

This week-end, I just replaced the slide out seal on my '98 American Star. I had exactly the same problem you had, the clips inside the seal rust out, and break, and then the seal pulls from the trim.

My dealer said I had to take off the trim, but I read on one of these NGs that I could do it while leaving the trim attached.

I pulled the old seal from the trim, leaving the trim still attached to the wall. I cleaned all the old adhesive off the trim (took the longest time of the whole operation), then used a Black and Decker "Super Wonder Bar" to press the new seal back onto the trim.

Total time from start to finish, about 5 hours.
