I was wondering what other people do for storing over the winter. Do you leave the slides out or in. My rig will be in a building but not heated. Also do most people leave the coach on the jacks or not. Thanks for the help. Bob

Slides in, jacks up and plywood under the tires.

Keep the slides in in case your batteries go dead and protect the seals from deforming while in out mode.

Hi dougburi,
When the slides are out:
1. toppers are exposed
2. all seals are exposed
3. topper springs are wound up tight
4. harder to access basement compartments
When the jacks are down:
1. the jacks are under pressure holding up the coach
2. jack cylinders are exposed
3. jack springs are stretched
I'm sure there are other items.
As to what is right or wrong or the best way to store, think about this. Millions of RVs go to warm climates every year and spend 6 months with the slides out and the jacks down. Wear and tear on the components mentioned above is no different when occupied than when in storage. For me, if the coach is not occupied, there is no reason to have the above mentioned items exposed, under pressure, or stretched.

Agree with slides in during storage, especially outside in northern climates where snow and ice could build up on slide roofs and toppers.....if stored inside don't think it would make a difference other than space restraints. I store jacks down to relieve some of the weight on tires and suspension but also have an electric jack system (Atwood) so don't think there is any undue stress on the system.

My method has been always slides in. Jacks however, down for sprung chassis (ie Gas rig) up for air. I always felt the springs on a sprung chassiss would be better off unloaded. The jack ram is hard chromed and should never rust or pit. Air rides will sink and cause no real issue of load or no load.
Just my method, not necessarily everybodies.

Good idea Lug-Nut the springs will lose their tension, had two Fords that couldn't support the Newmar box.
