Small rubber plug in end of pink suction hose

On my 2015 DS the plastic suction hose used for pumping in the pink antifreeze had a rubber plug in the end with a screw type hose clamp holding it there.

Since this is the first time I've winterized is this plug intended to be replaced after each use (I had to cut about 1" off the end of the hose in order to use it since the plug was almost impossible to get out - did manage after the cut piece was out where I could really get at it) or is it something Newmar sticks in it at the factory for delivery purposes?

Once I loosened the clamp plug almost fell out. I put the plug back in afterwards tightened clamp. Guess you just had a tight fit.

Mine has a brass plug with hose clamp. Still a little tough to get out when ready to winterize.

I'll try to get the plug back in the end of the hose now that I'm about finished with the pink stuff. Probably won't need the hose clamp if the plug goes back in as tight as it came out.

That's what ours was in the '02 DSDP, never had a problem getting it out though, just had to loosen the hose clamp and pull.

I use a piece of copper tubing. I put silicone in it and rolled/crimped the end of it up. Put some more in it (very small amount) to form a sealed end. Push it up in the clear tubing and turn to valve off to the intake for the water pump. No clamp and it stays full and helps keep the prime for the pump. Never lost the pink stuff, and have kept the prime to the pump for over 6 years now. Copper plug doesn't stick in the clear plastic line as plastic against plastic does when you remove it. Twist it a little and it pulls right out. Copper plug is about 2 inches long.
