Has anyone had any experience with a solar panel putting out 20 amps and destroying an alternator? What else can be damaged with this kind of problem?

Welcome to irv2 and the Newmar forum mimi1.
Not sure which panel your having a problem with but the panels are isolated from a alternator with battery isolator and the small panel for the chassis battery is far as I know is only 5w's.
Here is a link to some solar panel posts that maybe of interest to you.

Solar panel questions

If these are of no help please give us some more info as to your problem.
Enjoy the forums and do post often.
