solar pannel controller

I have 97 Newmar Mountainaire 38' gas with a solar panel on the roof. It is located over the driver's area. Trying to find the solar power controller that charges the chassis battery. Any help locating the controller pannel would be appreciated.

There is no controller for the 12" square solar panel the red led on dash is what controls it on every Newmar I have seen.
If you have a larger panel 18" x 3' than you should be able to purchase control at a Rv dealer supply.

We just got a new Bay Star. It has a solar panel on the roof, but nothing in the literature says anything about it. What does it do?

Hi padre44,
Welcome to iRV2 and your new Newmar coach. Historically, the solar panel provides 5 WATTS of maintenance charge to the chassis battery(s). This is a maintenance charge and will not charge the chassis battery(s) but it should maintain them at whatever charge they are at.

If it is a small panel it really needs no controller as it is a trickle charger. It really is only to maintain the battery and is not enough to actually charge.
For a good though lengthy discussion check the Solar That Really Works discussion http://www.irv2.com/forums/f93/solar...rks-66571.html
