I think we are all looking for function and usability, not HI-FI. It is a motorhome after all and not a sound studio! My only complaint is the sub-woofer which vibrates the cabinets. That's an installation issue which is hard to fix in a small space.

I agree with Algoma, I'm not that worried about fidelity, what I have meets my needs. Just found that Sony receiver to be far too large for the front A/V cabinet so found a smaller unit with similar specs. If I decide later to strive for better sound quality I'll replace the speakers.

Hi Slabman;
You might recall my aggravation with Newmars' HDMI wiring of the system.
I hated those small speakers as well, and tried the Sony DH1050 to improve the situation. Didn't work.
I found that I could mount a sound bar under the televator TV, with the new subwoofer in the void space below, and I was able to yank the Sony, and run everything from an HDMI splitter. We were able to do away with those goofy splitters that Newmar had provided as well. We are delighted with the sound, and the soundbar automatically goes on and off with the TV.
My AV cabinet is now nice and cool, and relatively empty, with only the DVD player, the stuff for the satellite, the HDMI splitter box (which is really small) the WDTV and the hard drive that holds our movies, and our music. At some point we will add the satellite cable box when we sign up for a satellite package, but there is lots of room for that.
It might not be anybody elses' solution, but it so far works for us, and we don't have to use those cheesy ceiling speakers.
Oh yah, I've got a couple of brand new boat anchor Sony's on my shelf, and Sonys subwoofer will join them if I can figure out how to get it out.
Rob

Bob, I believe you think like me. I see no need to mess with a functional, factory setup unless I can improve the sound. I have repeatedly thought sbout a sound bar, but never heard anyone here with the same idea. Sooooo.....
1. what brand/model soundbar did you use?
2. How large is the sub and how did you get it into that void under the televator TV?
3. What is the issue with the Newmar-supplied powered splitter? ( Mine is in the basement...not sure I could eliminate it for any reason without losing functionality.)
Thanks!

Had the same problem, but fixed when I could calibrate the speaker system. Newmar wires up the Sony Receiver rather strangely, and makes it almost impossible to do the calibration and many other things. There are a couple of threads that discuss how to properly wire things up:

I followed the basic procedure NewmarPusher describes in the "Weird AV settings" thread. Once you get access to the Sony Receiver setup, then you can use the speaker calibration microphone you probably haven't been able to use. That completely fixed my subwoofer issues, along with manually reducing its level in the setup menu. There are also setting knobs actually on the subwoofer that can be adjusted. Link to the manual is here:

Thanks Ron but I did do all the microphone calibration stuff a year ago. Did my own HDMI wiring so did not have to redo Newmar's. If I turn the subwoofer down I can get rid of the resonance but you lose the deep base; where's the fun in that?

1. what brand/model soundbar did you use? I had to go out to the moho to check. It's a Samsung HW-J430.
2. How large is the sub and how did you get it into that void under the televator TV? It's Net Dimension (Sub Woofer) (WxHxD) 7.04 x 14.2 x 11.8. I took out the couch in front, and unscrewed the front of the base behind. I took out the bottom screws of the televator and moved it slightly so that the sub could fit in the space to the left of the televator. It fit perfectly. The void space seems to give me some extra bass response from the sub. It was a simple install.
3. What is the issue with the Newmar-supplied powered splitter? The ones I am talking about Slabman, are the ones in the AV cabinet. One has a single inlet from the satellite, and it feeds the televator and exterior TV. The other one feeds from the DVD player to both TVs. I didn't need them because I removed the exterior TV as soon as I got the moho home from the dealer. My feeling was that if I want to watch TV, I shouldn't burden others who might be camping to listen to nature, not me. I took the HDMIs from the satellite and DVD player and plugged them into the HDMI splitter. That splitter has a remote that I can choose from satellite, DVD player, or from the WDTV.
