Sony Radio

We have a new 2017 Newmar Baystar and it has a Sony Radio up front. The problem is that it wants to constantly flash and have the screen dance with movement. Does anyone know how to turn off all that craziness on this radio.

I have the same situation with my Sony radio in my outside entertainment center. No switch to totally turn off the power, so even when it is "off"... it still is active.

Obviously designed for a younger crowd!

I'll be interested in any suggestions you get.

Quick and easy - my preferred way is replace with Pioneer ACX491BSR 😁.
Page 18 in the manual. canceling the demo mode.
Press menu
Rotate select set demo and press
Rotate to select demo off press
President back button twice

Agree that turns off the flashing disco lights temporarily but it doesn't seem to last - the next trip out the radio is back to its old ways.

We also have a radio replacement (touch-screen radio with Nav built in) on the Christmas list for our RV.

The in dash radio/gps in my 2015 DS 4369 is pretty useless to me not for the features Etc. But because of positioning. It is too far to be able to see any fine detail. Also getting your eyes off the road, to look down and to the side for any length of time is very dangerous while driving a 60’ long 20 ton rig.
It is angled away from my navigator (DW), so she can not see it or work the unit. Same goes for the radio, unless she sits on the floor by the radio.
In my plane we had lPad moving map system software that allowed her to create or alter a flight plan and send it to my iPad in flight.
I see the same problems with buying updated Pioneer or Kenwood unit for the DS.

Didn't buy for the GPS. Bought for radio fidelity, ease of use, ability use a CD-SR-110 steering wheel remote. Use separate Garmin GPS. Ran into the limitations/ills of embedded GPS many years ago.

Do you remove battery power from chassis between trips? If not battery/ignition power wiring should retain memory settings between trips.

I do, yep. Probably not necessary - we take the RV out once, sometimes twice a month, just force of habit.

I'm just looking for an excuse to spend $$$ on new toys for the RV!

You may have found your problem.

I won't tell...keep your excuse and use it.

New radio will lose stuff also like clock.

We are disappointed with our Sony radio. We need to take a teenage grandchild along sometime to get it set up properly. Even when we can get it to work marginally, the signal quality is poor. Local AM stations only work up to about 20 miles from the transmitter. We work around its limitations (or ours) by using our smart phone as a radio receiver and connecting to the radio via usb to access the better sound in the Sony system. We had similar issues with our 2005 DSDP and finally took it in to a local audio store where they greatly improved performance. We may have to do the same with this one.

Called Newmar and they hooked me up with the Sony rep....here is what he wrote me:

Canceling the DEMO Mode You can cancel the demonstration display which appears when the source is off and the clock is displayed.

1. Press MENU, rotate the control dial to select [SET GENERAL], then press it.
2. Rotate the control dial to select [SET DEMO], then press it.
3. Rotate the control dial to select [SET DEMO-OFF], then press it. The setting is complete.
4. Press (back) twice. The display returns to normal reception/play mode

Thank You!

I have the same with my Sony in my 2017 Dutch Star.

Also had my phone linked to the radio but I know I can't get it linked again.
