Anybody else have any trouble with their air temp guage on the Spartan digital information screen? I have been suspicious of mine since I took delivery, but recently put in my own indoor/outdoor gauge. I was in Ehrenberg, AZ Sunday where my gauge and the display at the gas station agreed at about 108?. The Spartan gauge read 124?!! I'm pretty sure it wasn't quite that hot. Anybody else have this experience? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Alan

You mentioned that during this comparison you were in a service station. Therefore you were stopped after driving a distance. I've never observed the temperature on mine after stopping, but could imagine it may well be higher than actual. Is it possible that yours is correct if moving or cold stopped?

No, I've watched it fairly steady while driving. It read 124? when I was pulling into the station. I also noticed it at home about 10? +/- higher than my home thermometer, but the 124? catches more attention. I have an email into Spartan as well, so we'll see what they have to say. And next time I'm at the dealer I'll have them check it out. But as it is, it doesn't seem to be something I can rely on.

Spartan or TripTek? As for the TripTek outside air temp (which would also apply to any outside air temp) the sender could be located in a poor place picking up erroneous heat. I moved my sender to be in a cleaner air flow and basically solved the problem. It's very difficult to find a suitable air temp sender location with all the chassis heat, trapped air spaces, sun heated body panels, and radiant heat off the pavement interference. The problem is exacerbated when in temp/sun extremes like you are.

I don't suppose anyone knows where Spartan tends to locate that sender? Maybe I need to start looking.
Thanks,
Alan

Hi! Whenever we would stop for fuel etc, with the Genset running, out outside air temp gauge would jump at least 10 or 20 degrees. Once underway it would read pretty much the outside temp. That would leave me to believe that the sensor is located in the Genset area (this was on our 07 MADP) I would move it if the issue bothers you. Paul

Good point, every time I have read it and thought it to be suspicious, the Gen was running. So two things, first I'll check it with the Gen off and cool, and second, sounds like I know where to start looking for the sensor. Thanks!

On a K2 (EXDP) the Spartan sensor is located by the windshield washer bottle attached to the lower mounting rail. Actually a pretty good location as long as it's in good air flow.

The TripTek senser is located stuffed in the mass of wiring against the firewall on the DS of the genset pullout as is the ePlex sensor.

I'll try to post photos of each of these for your reference. They are all very different in looks.

TripTek Thermistor (the thing on the blue plug)

E-Plex thermistor (note the thermistor is on a 12" pigtail off of a control module about the size of a 35mm film can. I know all of us out here still remember what those look like!

Spartan Thermistor - that's the winshield washer bottle on the left.
