Starting engine problem

1999 Mountain Aire 40'with a 330 cummins on a sparton chassis. I cant start it with the ign switch but starts if i use a jumper at the starter. Any suggestions where to chech? Ign switch is working.

Hi - Sounds like you have a starter solenoid that is causing your problem. Trace back from the starter for it's location.

Follow the wiring back from the starter and you will find a small slave solenoid that operates the starter. Replace that one and you should be good to go. Sorry I can't tell you exactly where that solenoid is located as it changes from year to year.
Take the old one to your local NAPA or auto parts store for a match.

Yep, starter relay/solenoid , I've replaced two.

It'll most likely be between the starter and the batteries; and look like one of these.

Yes, the last six digits of the chassis VIN.

Not sure what else to say except just begin at the starter where you had the jumper and go hand over hand following the wire back to the solenoid.

Brian - The only other thing I can add is (I am not familiar with your year chassis) that if you have a rear passenger side bay that has electrical components in it, you may find it there. A call to Spartan would be your best bet.

Tom i only have 1 slide right behind the drivers seat. I found 2 relays but think they go to the glow plugs. Spartan said on the fram rail. Ill be damned if i can find them. This SUX

Tom. I have a relay in the compartment with the transfer switch but it says coatch on it. Id post a pic but dont know how to
