The step cover on my 2004 MADP works intermittently. When the switch is activated, sometimes the motor will run and raise/lower the cover and other times there is no movement. The motor is not trying to run when there is no movement; just silence. A repairman recommended I replace the dash switch, which I did, but the results did not change. This seems like a electrical grounding issue, but where do I start? Thanks.

We had a issue with 12 volt motor on the inside step on our Essex. The motor wasn't attached at the correct location so it would extend to far and break the end of the step arm. Corrected the location and all is good. On your problem if it is the ground why wouldn't you just run another ground wire?

It turned out to not be a grounding issue. It takes two people, but by checking for current at the actuator while operating the switch, we found that there was power to the actuator. Since it was an intermittent failure there must have been a dead spot in the motor and when it would stop at that point it failed to work. Replaced with a 6" Eco Worthy 225 pound max load linear actuator from Amazon. It was just over $50 (item model #: N-TGF12V150-T-1)
