I have found two place where there is something marked "Steps" 1) in the fuse panel on the dash and 2) in the electrical bay there is a little CB marked "steps".

After checking fuses, the first thing I would check is the ground connection. These are usually exposed to the elements and can cause problems like you are describing. The door switch being out of alignment is the second thing to look at. Lubrication of the steps is also very important.
Here is a manual for the Kwikee brand steps (I don't know what yours are). Maybe something in here can help.

This connector can be problematic as well.

Here is a link to wiring and fusing found in QT's # 3.
As mention you have three locations for ground connections the main green ground heavy wire to a frame connection that should be OK, two that can give you trouble is one short one green small wire attached to screw that holds the control board to step frame and one that is attached to the chassis square frame piece that comes from your door switch.
Steps should be routinely lubed at all moving step frame locations.

Most important, lubrication as the previous posts advise. 99.99% of step failures are a result of poor or lack of lubrication.
Personally, I use Boshield T9 on steps, hinges, locks etc etc. Best of all spray lubes, IMO.

It's not a fuse if it's intermittent . As mentioned could be a bad ground or the magnetic switch in the door that controls auto operation with the door. Try with step switch on and off. mag switch is covered by a round rubberized cover about the size of a quarter and is in the door frame, it will pry out.

Happy that we surrendered
We have replaced the step motor on our 2007 Dutch Star 3 times in the last 3 years. It failed again recently.
We had used an OEM motor, replaced the controller box, replaced the door switch and used a car window motor. All were short-lived (except the controller).
We just purchased the Kwikee direct replacement. As soon as I used it the first time, I could feel the difference.
The installer said that he had nothing but trouble with the original steps and was so happy that we had selected the Kwikee.
