The step of my 2007 MADP does not extend/retract with the opening and closing of the door. It only extends and retracts with engine on. Any help would be appreciated.

On our coach, there is a switch that causes the step to do exactly this if it is turned off. Maybe the wiring to that switch has gone bad? It also may be the switch controller.

I look for the simple things first, if I had that problem on mine I would make sure the step switch on the control pannel was on. If that's not the problem I would drag the manual out and see if it had anything in the truoble shooting section. Your situation sound like a switch problem, good luck in figureing this one out.

My Mh steps are activated by a magnet on the screen door.

As Luv2Go said check the position of you step switch, should be on, or your step will operate exactly as you describe.
I am assuming that when you say your step only operates with the engine running it does the following. Retracts as soon as you turn the key on, with the key on and/or the engine running the extends and retracts when you open and close the door. Once the key is turned off the first time you open the door the step extends and stays extended.
If the above is true, and the step switch is on, then it is probably a bad switch, or the less likely the wiring. Could also be the connector that is near the step under the coach. Step operators manual if you have it should have a detailed troubleshooting procedure.

Spike, your description is accurate. With the engine on, the step extends when the door opens and retracts when the door closes. I do not have a separate switch in the Mountain Aire like I had in my previous DutchStar. I do notice a pair of "contacts" in the door jam and another pair in the door. I assume these activate the step when the engine is not running.
I recently purchase the 2007 Mountain Aire and as I recall, the step was extending and retracting with the opening and closing of the door with the engine off.

Those contacts aren't for the steps. The step control has a magnet that makes when the door closes, just like the magnet switch for the slide locks.
