I have a 2005 MADP 4303 with a potential step problem. They open as they should but sometimes when they retract, they will fully retract and then continue to try to retrack, other times when they retract it will retract and stop. I don't know if there is a sensor that needs an adjustment or a possible gear problem, does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks

Sonny

When the step retracts and continues to run, what kind of noise is it making? Does it sound like a gear is slipping/grinding?

The steps have to be lubed very welll to work properly. When mine don't rretract fully I know it is time to get out the lithium spray lube again. There is no limit switch but the controller senses an overload on the motor to cut power. The motors are power window motors.

I'm not sure I can adequately describe the sound/action. Like most of my other problems this one is intermittent as well, sometime when it retracts it'll retract all the way then when it gets retracted in it will bump out and retract back in, it'll go thru this retract/bump back out/retract sequence about three or four times before it finally quits. When it bumps back out it bumps back out about an inch. Other times it'll retrack and stop normally.

Not sure what manufacturer/model steps you have so this may not be applicable. The controller turns off my step motor by sensing how much current the step operating motor is drawing, once they are fully extended or retracted they should no longer move. But the motor keeps trying to move them which makes it draw more current, the controller sensing this increased current draw and turns off the power to the motor. What you may be hearing is your motor sliping the internal worm gears that move the steps. If this is the way yours works your controller might be starting to fail. Another thing to check is your hard stops for your steps
