Steps deploy while driving !

We own a 2003 Newmar Mountain Aire 3781 . We have owned it for 1 year but due to circumstances we have used it less than 400 miles . Our children used it most of those miles . Yesterday I had to move it from a service center who were doing a check on the dash AC system back to the barn . While driving down the road the steps deployed and I stopped and opened and slammed the door and they went in . Another mile up the road they did it again so I stopped and repeated the open/slam and they stored again and remained so the rest of the way . My question is what can I do to prevent this ? Anyone else have this happen and how did you ensure it stopped ? Any easy way to install a lockout toggle switch ? Thanks in advance for any and all help .

All class a's already have a lockout switch.... c mine below:
and safety override so when in gear it pulls in...

Now the dealer may have screwed something up, but you can take the Entry Step switch off the auto settings and that should lock it in.

Also, check the sensor under the step to make sure it is still lined up with the step sensor.

There are 3 or 4 button switches on the entry door frame on the hinge side one of them controls the steps- I think it is defective & shorting out periodically . Open the door- stay clear of the steps & start pushing them one at a time to see which one retracts the steps- when you find it - replace it- that should solve your problem.

Happy Trails

In the panel on the passenger side you will have a switch for the steps. In the On position the steps are active each time the door is Opened/closed as in traveling when you want them to retract when you close the door.
In the Off position, the steps will extend and stay extended while you are parked with the ignition Off. If you turn on the ignition and close the door, they will still retract.
There is a Magnetic Switch in the door frame that controls the steps when the door is opened/closed according to the position of the overhead switch and the ignition.

In your case, if they are extending with the door closed, I suspect you have a poor ground issue or the magnetic switch is loose or faulty. Attached is a Kwikee manual that outlines trouble shooting.
First thing I would do is crawl under, find the ground wire, remove it, clean it and reinstall. Also while you're there, lubricate All Pivot Points with a good spray lube Like CRC or Boshield T9. WD40 will help for a short time but it tends to dissipate quickly since its main purpose is a Water Dispersant as opposed to a lubricant.
CAUTION, be careful when working on the steps as they can cause serious harm if you get your hands caught. Turn the inside switch OFF, Ign Off and do not activate the door while working on the steps.

As an emergency measure that we used until we got our new steps figured out, and if the step fuses are somewhat handy, just get the step in the desired position and pull the fuses. It makes for a long step if the fuses are outside, as ours were, but it worked. Our problem was as simple as installing the new magnetic door switch that came with the new steps, but I don't think that is yours. I think Dennis and the others probably have it pegged. I only mentioned this as a possible emergency measure
