Still Learning

Are there any concerns with using coffee pot or a microwave for a short period of time while driving down highway without starting generator. Charging system should be able to handle that? Thank you in advance

Not at all. We frequently have the crock pot going while we travel. Just make sure its secure.

The alternator puts out more than the generator. No problem.

We leave our coffee maker on while traveling also. Helps if you are all electric with the higher output inverter and large battery bank.

I’m curious how you arrive at the conclusion that the alternator puts out more than the generator.
Thanks.

Note it is true the alternator puts out more amperage than the genny, but at 10x less voltage,. Appliances run on Watts, which is Volts X Amps. The genny puts out way over 5KW, the alternator, even a big one in a DP puts out maybe 2.4KW. You may have been thinking of the charge current of your inverter, which is probably in the 100-150A range at 12V, or 1 to 1.8KW.

That said, I agree it will not strain the alternator too much to use the 1000W microwave or coffee maker for a few minutes. Just don't run them together.

I assume the crockpot and coffee maker are securely attached....We keep our coffeemaker Bungee corded to the wall while moving. Has held fine through three panic stops so far.

We use a Keurig on the road and it is on a lot of the time. We set it up in the sink to avoid any spills or sudden stop catastrophes. The inverter handle it easily.

I agree it is not a problem but the generator has about 10 times the output of the alternator....say 8kw at 12v is the equivalent of 660 amps

I think you will all slap my wrists because my coffee pot just set on the counter with one of those rubber holed mats in assorted colors, coffee pot, towel dispenser, candy glass container and wood bowl with fruit on kitchen table along with the salt and pepper dispenser.
Never drove like a maniac and just cruised down the road listening to country music on CD player.
Relax people enjoy the good life.
Every thing in same place as when we left.
No mats in this picture wife was cleaning all her stuff always in place.

When we first started traveling, everything had to be stored, cabinets and table top clear. Then we bought some of that rubber non-slip mat as you described. Now things remain on counter, table, night stands, etc.
we still put the Keurig in the sink since it is a single cup unit and seems top heavy.
Happy Travels!
