Storage bay shelf

Spring sprung here today and we had a 70-degree day. So, I completed the shelf project in the storage bay that I had been putting off. It was a simple project using standard closet shelf stock from Home Depot and some scrap aluminum I had in the shop.

Along the frame rail (in the Spartan, at least) there's an angle-iron lip that I made clamps for. (Nice to have a shop with a milling machine and other metal-working tools). That supports the back of the shelf. The front was made from some 1-1/2x3/16" aluminum bar stock and standard closet shelf mounting hardware.

To keep things from sliding off the front and back, I used some hardwood trim pieces I had on hand. A flat, 3/4" elastic (bunji) strap secures things on the access side.

Very nice! Wish I had a fab shop at my disposal. I end up using a hack saw and cordless drill with assorted drill bits....

Thank you all for the positive comments! I think, however, my project could have easily been done with "a hack saw and a cordless drill with assorted bits"...and a bit of creating thinking.

Deep channel stock could have been substutited for the clamps I machined and the rest is just flat stock that would need to be cut and drilled. The side boards are held in place with Velcro.

That said, it is nice to have a small machine shop available. I do get some enjoyment from just firing up the milling machine or lathe and making metal chips.
